Just an observation and I’m not taking sides, but it seems like some of you guys need to pick one :like:

So the main argument that the M1 guys throw up against the GT is that the differences are of best benefit on the track i.e. coolers / tyres (with HP) etc. Personally I’m not disputing that and it’s been proven that on a flying lap with the same driver and tyres, there’s nothing in it between a MR PP1 GT, a MR Bullitt and a non HP M1. i.e. compared to those cars the M1 shines in HP format and with sustained track use - it’s a better ‘track’ car :like:

But when the 350 / 350R comes into it, swapping sides and claiming the better ‘street’ car … ?

WD :like:
all of those things can be true. the track advantage for the mach 1 is cooling. the bullitt/pp1/pp2 can run a lap at a similar time but can they do it to the extent that a mach 1 can?
and the voodoo is built for high rpm use on a track where the coyote is more street orientated.

The problem is, a pony car , was designed for the youth market, And it has jumped the shark as they say.
Today a gt mid 40's to mid 50's and a Mach 1 is 66k and up.
Everyone of us that was able to afford any new mustang are blessed, As we are doing well for ourselves.
But , I'm sorry, 45-55k for a pony car is nuts.
Youth of today are not interested in cars, because what they can afford is a boring fwd pos.
I'd be MEH about vehicle ownership if The vehicle choices I could afford to buy and insure were all underpowered 4 door family turds.
At least when I was a new driver, even if I couldn't afford the high strung model, and only the basic v8 car, you had the same body, and time and sweat and a little funds you could swap out that 260 v8 or 283 v8 and drop in a 289 or a 327,etc.
The kid today that gets a fusion , is stuck with what it is.
my first mustang msrp'd for $26k so this one at almost $64k definitely made me pause. but when you consider the average new car in the US is now something like $42k its not that big of a stretch. with banks offering financing to anyone with a pulse and the money printers going brrrrrrrrrr, these prices are not a surprise. whats the alternative? the only other cars i would compare it to are even more expensive.

As an outsider, we love the Mach 1. Thing looks dope. I’m also a big fan of the 350 but it’s being replaced by something super cool however. It’s wayyy cooler than a regular everyday 5.0, imo even better than the pp2.

yeah, a mach 1 when my 71, was new, was about 3,000 hours worth of minimum wage. now, even if we consider the 'new' 15/hr min wage, it is 4,000 hours worth. if we look at the actual (7.50USD) in many places, it is about 8,000 hours worth of minimum wage. o_O
And if you wanted one, you could at 14 mow lawns, have a paper route, shovel show (depending on area), etc. and pack away money for that day you walked into the dealership at 17 or 18 with new lic. to drive and a pocket full of change and buy the car. as it is a lot easier to save up 3489.00 than it is for a kid to save 45k-66k for a car. at that point keep saving and buy a house.
Frankly if I was a kid today, I'd be working and living in my parent's basement, stashing away cash for buying a houe. or if that wasn't an option. I'd buy a used rv before a car, and live in it while I stashed away cash and bought a home cash. As that is the only way they'll be able to afford one, unless the market tanks again. like 2008-2010.
One of my children is doing this now. Has a little over 200k saved. and is on Her way to being a home owner by the end of 2023. Free and clear. I thought she was nuts, but within 8 years, she'll have enough funds to buy a house free and clear. something it takes many 30 years or more to do.
But a new or even late model used vehicle of any kind isn't on her radar anytime soon. Becaause even after buying whatever she decides, she'll need a truck, for all those home improvement/changes/etc. and a sports car will not work.
But a dent side with a 302 will .

I have two teens that are about to start driving this year so me and wife been asking them what type of car they think they're going to want and both said they don't care as long as it has CarPlay and lots of cameras. Kids are not built like we are these days..
No they are "built" the same as we were, just we needed a car to go hang with our friends go on dates, and or get some, some.
THey can do that with their phone. The whole chatting a girl up to get them to go on a date, is on a phone through text, and sexting, then a meet up and bang, as tinder/etc shows most are a lot more willing than they used to be, or seemed.
THey also have thousands of hours of footage they can stream on the phone to get off if the needed.
They don't NEED wheels to do the same things we NEEDED wheels to do.
I don't know about you, I can only speak for myself. but I wanted wheels so I could hang with friends, go see the landscape that was past the limits of my bike and legs, go on dates, maybe give the backseat springs a work out. and something to tinker with. Play my music without having to hear parents say turn it down.lol
Today, they can do all that with the computer in their pocket. other than going to plow town. but that is only an uber away.
Teens haven't changed, the world has.

Just poking. Depending on what they are used for I would rank them differently.

Track (Road Course)
GT 350R
GT500/GT350
Mach 1
PP2 (I actually haven't had much heat issues with mine)
PP1

Drag Racing
GT500
Mach 1 Auto
PP1 w/Magneride Auto
GT350R/GT350
PP2

DD (though some may prefer to row gears more)
Mach 1 Auto
GT500 (maybe not due to MPG)
PP1 Auto
PP2
GT350/350R

If you look the Mach 1 hits top 3 in all my lists. If I could afford two Mustangs right now I would probably have a Mach 1 Auto which I would still take to the road course.

Average new car price is 28k.
Average new VEHICLE price is 42k.
Also, that is the rub. What happens when auto loan rates are not low. That party is going away starting in 2021 and only going to slowly fad away if the words out of the feds, is fact, not hot air. Sure many in their late 40's or older might buy their fun car cash, but most buyers don't, and Those that might flinch at a 675.00 car payment, but still sign on the dotted line, will they when it is 800+.
This is a huge issue for ALL types of vehicles, and the leasing option won't help if interest rates start a march upwards.
The lmost decade of low rates, has allowed the oem's to make the msrp bleed. just like house prices. Difference is people need a place to live, they don't need a new or just off lease vehicle. The vehicle market is going to tank, HARD. once the free money goes bye bye.
Dealers won't need inventory as there won't be buyers.

while I laud the effort, I wouldn't buy until the housing price corrects no less than 30%. Or wait for the World Economic Collapse of 2023 to work it's way out.

why would she pay cash for the house at time of record low interest rates???????

i think there will be a correction in all markets, given enough time. the auto market feels like its close. the housing market is a little more tricky. its massively overpriced BUT it could continue to grow as a safer place to park money. where else are you going to put it? the bank lol? long term debt at low, fixed rates is something to take advantage of. if it was up to me i wouldn't have allowed rates to ever get this low but i'm not in charge so all i can do is take advantage of it when possible. the fed may tick rates up but don't expect anything too drastic. they are just going to keep kicking the can down the road for someone else to deal with it. nobody wants to be in charge when this comes home to roost.

Exactly. If you bought 1 bitcoin 5 years ago for 350 bucks, you could have sold it this year for 65k to pay for Mach 1 HP. How crazy is that? Wish I trusted that bubble some more back then.

I mean you can still get a Ecoboost, GR86, MX-5, and whatever the hell the cheap Camaro is for under $30k new. And a base GT is still $36k. But yea, cars are more expensive. Still beats the malaise years though.
