Other option is to get the h pipe and then have the active exhaust tuned
This works well. Theres enough adjustability in there to tone down one exhaust mod. Either headers or an x/h pipe, or axlebacks. If you do more than one the valves will be basically closed all the time.

I've found that after a certain point, like maybe 15% valve position, the output volume falls off a cliff, then above 15% it takes a lot of valve movement to make an appreciable difference.

Essentially:
the difference between 50% and 75%, or 50% and 25% is subtle, but the difference between 25% and 15% is huge. Makes it tough to mellow out more than one thing. I have it done for my headers and I'm a huge fan, it works extremely well.

Agreed
The valves are extremely dynamic on these mustangs.
itā€™s not just a case of them opening or closing.
they change and move to different outputs through RPM, throttle position and even gear selection.

the Bullitt has them tuned different to a Gt to give them more a 60s rumble.

2.5 inch inlet/outlet or 2.75??
This might help :

Standard GT resonator does a similar thing :
  • Standard pipe diameter = 2.5"
  • Diameter at front manifold clamps = 2.25" (same for standard resonator and resonator deletes).
  • Diameter at resonator outlet joint = 2.00" (removed with resonator delete).

So I finally installed a Ford Performance x-pipe on my 2017 mustang GT. The only other exhaust mod that I have are Corsa Touring axle-backs. The car is LOUD, especially on cold starts!!! Holy shit. I park the car in the garage of my condo and when I fire her up, I'm literally embarrassed!!!

So, who else has gone back to a stock resonator.
Yep
After an H pipe and then a SwitchFire on my Bullitt I went back to stock. Had it all welded back on.
Honestly I forgot how good the stock Bullitt exhaust sounds and Iā€™m really pleased to be back to stock.
Any future changes will be either a full cat back or I may even consider the Legato Axel back.

I run the stock resonator and midpipes, with a muffler delete axle back, which was the way it was set up when I purchased the car. To me itā€™s JUST RIGHT, i can keep it quiet when passing po-po in traffic, but when I lean into it it sounds really great. Iā€™m honestly afraid to change anything about it. Considering a pair of bullet style resonators, just to get the suitcase out of the way, but even that Iā€™m a little hesitant about. Perfect deep ā€œgrowlā€ with no rasp šŸ˜Ž

Yeh
If I was you I wouldnā€™t do it.
The stock resonator is great at keeping the low growl sound.
Both the H pipe and SwitchFire had rasp

I have the Steeda H-pipe and love it! Active exhaust with quiet mode is the ticket for sure...early morning cold starts and long highway trips, it's in quiet mode. When I want to be loud (most of the time), sport or track mode. I think the OP's aftermarket mufflers make it too loud that cannot be adjusted.

I just bought my 2015 and it already had long tubes, H pipe and muffler deleted axle backs so its super loud and raspy. I'm looking to put Flowmaster 2/3 chamber mufflers on it to mellow it out some, but I notice no one uses Flowmasters anymore, these were the muffler of choice on all my Fox body cars and even my 03 Terminators, do they no sound good on the S550?
