Whipple stage 1 thoughts?

I decided to sell my 15 and get an 18 with the 10r80 and a Whipple. I am stuck with the stage 1 since I want the warranty. I plan to upgrade once the warranty is up or I feel the motor isn't one of the troublesome ones. I see plenty about the stage 2 but I haven't seen much feedback from stage 1 owners. What kind if real world numbers are y'all seeing? How is the driving experience?

Have you read the warranty? You basically can not do anything to the car accept install the Whipple or the warranty is void. Take a careful look at the exclusions. Thinking of doing OPGs? No warranty. New wheels and tires that are not factory that came with the car, no warranty. Any mods that "prep the car for a track event" (this is open to claims adjusters interpretation), no warranty.

Just take a careful look. The warranty is not through Whipple it is with a 3rd party and like most 3rd party warranties they will look for a reason not to pay.

Just know the exclusions before you put down the $1000.

It's nice to say there's a warranty but the reality is that it is very narrow in scope and most people that would add a supercharger will not stop there....

BTW, you can get the warranty with the stage 2 Whipple. You just have to use the 4.00" pulley.

I have read it and yeah the wheels and tires is ridiculous but I thought it might give me time to save for axles and wheels and tires. I figure if I get a bad batch coyote it will show pretty early on before I get wheels and tires. I guess I could just wait to put a few miles on it first and then get the stage 2. That is definitely an option but a decidedly less fun one.

Skip the BS get stage 2

The supposed "bad batch of bore linings" on some of the 18s. At this point it I don't think it is really known what or how many are "bad" but there is definitely a few duds out there.

I do see your point but Roush is as popular as they are because of the available warranty so I don't think I'm the only one.

That is exactly what I am doing. I just received my stage 2 w/ 3.875" pulley. No warranty. Going whip the snot out of the drive train for a couple to three thousand miles and then have at it. I believe this type of phased approach is better than that lame warranty.

If something shows up early on (pre-Whipple) you have a warranty. It seems to me the failure modes, albeit low, tend to be infant mortality failures, early in the life of the drive train. At least that is what is presented on these forums...

I cancelled my Whipple stage 1 order, for several reasons, the warranty being one. My car is at the dealer now having a Roush phase 1 installed.

That was only for cars purchased at Lebanon Ford. A
board member here requested a 4" pulley and a 132mm throttle body, and a warranty and was denied.

The warranty for the Roush is almost as bad as the Whipple.
I was told that it is the same company for both Roush and Whipple. I didn't see anything about wheel and tires size in the Roush warranty, though. What other reasons pushed you towards the Roush?

I agree that it seems to happen early if it is going to happen.

stage 1 kit will do the job just fine til the warranty is up if thats what you want to do. we have a lot of customers that do the same thing then upgrade more once the warranty is up.

if thats your gut feeling stick with it, hit me up with any questions you may have on your build

We haven't personally tested the Stage 1 kit as we went straight to thew Stage 2 setup. With that said the only differences between the 2 setups that affect power is the throttle body and pulley size.
You can expect to make the high 600rwhp-low 700's with the Stage 1 setup and good fuel. Drivability on the Stage 1 will be like stock as the Whipple cal was designed to drive just like the car did from the factory.

You can always do the Stage 1 and upgrade to the Stage 2 later on however it will cost you more to do so rather then going with the Stage 2 from the beginning. We've had the Stage 2 on for a while now and recently switched to E85 with a Lund Racing tune which yielded us a 9.79@144mph in the 1/4. The car still drives perfect and we haven't experienced any issues.
