How difficult was the install? Roughly how long did it take?
If I recall correctly about 3-4 hours from the time walking into the garage and finishing test drive once done. Mind you I can be very particular and like to take my time and make sure everything is right. Use some lube and put the boot on the shifter outside of the car. Other than that, there is one linkage bolt that has to come out and it's located towards the top of the transmission tunnel. Kind of a pain to reach and you are going to want to pull down on the transmission to give yourself that little extra bit of clearance. Those were the most difficult parts. MGW has some good tutorial videos to watch before tackling the install.

People will say MGW.
People will say Barton.

If the side assist spring for the 2-3 shift matters to you, go with the Barton Hybrid 3.

If retaining the reverse lockout collar matters to you, go with the Barton Hybrid 3.

If not, flip a coin .

Def go trans mounted as said above. The nvh is a non issue. Theres actually no noise associated with at least the mgw cause its a super nicely made piece. But there is some vibration but makes you feel connected in my opinion. The vibration is noticeable at first but you get used to it. This was one of my first mods for the mustang and i got it done by myself on jack stands just following videos in like 2-3 hours. And at the time i was much less mechanically inclined

The Barton also retains a relatively wide side-side gate does it not?

MGW, I really can't say enough good things about it.

I've been running the X spec/flat stick for the past 6000 miles and it's been great.
There is no side to side play, the side-side gates are wide enough that you won't catch the wrong gear but narrow enough to make quick upshifts or downshifts a breeze.

I'll occasionally experience some vibration through the shift knob but it doesn't transmit any noise into the cabin.

Love my MGW. Just a heads up for ANY of the complete shifter replacements: it WILL take a good week or two for the springs to break in. If it seems a little stiff at first, just give it some seat time. Absolutely would do the MGW again in a heartbeat.

The following is just some observations about my shifter and is not meant to be a complaint by any stretch.

Almost two months ago my son and I installed the Steeda Tri-Ax Street with their polyurethane shifter mount and reverse collar. On top is an FRPP knob. The first thing I noticed was the increased effort required to shift compared to stock. I expected some, but not quite that much. Maybe the shifter is too short, or I was too used to how easy the stock unit shifted. To be honest I do not notice the effort as much now.

The next thing was how "crunchy" the shifts were and still are. I don't know if this is because the stock shifter shaft is a two piece, rubber isolated unit, or it is from the new polyurethane mount. Also the reverse collar rattles and clicks very loudly between 3rd, 4th and 5th up shifts. It seems to be not so much between the shifter shaft and the collar as much as between the upper and lower collars. This is probably the most annoying aspect of the swap because the whole reason for going to the short shifter was the stock plastic lower lockout collar would no longer hold onto the Steeda upper collar. I tightened the three set screws as much as I dare since they are threaded into the Delrin lower collar and I did not want to strip them.

Last issue is the new noise from the polyurethane mount, especially if I keep my hand on the shifter. Poly is not as soft as the stock rubber by any means, it will transfer NVH, and it is to be expected from a shifter that has one end attached to the transmission and the other end attached to the body.

I love dealing with Steeda. I mean they even sent me a hand written thank you card a few weeks ago. Maybe I just need to take the console back off and see what is going on under there.

I have the Steeda Tri-Ax. No issues, no noise, no nothing. I'm more than happy with it. I never had an MGW or Barton, but they look to be some high quality stuff also.

Hey TJ, Steeda is always a great option! I had my '06 GT loaded with Steeda parts. I'm really just getting started with my '16 but I'm sure you guys will be well represented when it's all said and done. Prior to this post I was looking more heavily at the Steeda shifter, still haven't ruled it out, but Barton and MGW seem like the favorites.
On another note, did you guys stop making the carbon fiber CAI?
