I'm looking to get a set of wheels for square setup and Time Trials. So far I've narrowed it down to Apex SM10, Variant Radon, and the Steeda Trident wheels. Trying not to break the bank initially. The prices are similar with the Steeda wheels being the cheapest. I'm curious if others have had experience with Variant and tracking the car. The last thing I want to do is pick something too weak for track duty.

If you're worried about how a certain wheel will hold up on track, try to find the load rating of that wheel. If its in the neighborhood of 1500 lbs you'll be fine. Apex is the wheel you buy for peace of mind. Stupid strong and look good too!

Apex. I know about 3 GT350 owners. All 3 use Apexes (EC-7s I believe) on their car for track/street duty, and stored their carbons.

Thanks everyone. Pretty much what I was thinking but just needed to hear it I guess LOL. Pulled the trigger on the Apex wheels.

Glad you went with the APEX. APEX also replaces their wheels for half price if you break one. Not saying you will, but you really can't go wrong with APEX. And the SM-10's look fantastic. I wish the SM-10RS's were available when I bought my VS-5RS.

Thanks! One of the reasons I went with the SM-10's is they were one of the few not on backorder right now. Basically it was "here's all the Apex wheels. Now, here's the ones you can actually get by beginning of March. Would you like the grey or silver SM-10's?" :cwl: Thankfully I really like them. Went with the grey. The VS-5RS are a sick looking wheel too. The silver ones look killer with your car being white.

@TRDFurgesson , I've been going back and forth on adding ceramic coating. I can get the place I ordered them from to do it for with System X for another $180. These are going to be race-only wheels so I'm debating whether I want to or not. Or do it myself.

That was the correct choice for track wheels. I LOVE my brushed aluminum finish, but they are dirty basically immediately after I wash the car.

And yes, I know it's a race car, but I like when track cars are clean. Although, there is a certain beauty to dirty, beat up track cars (Forgive me, I couldn't find a good photo of the GTD after Daytona) that clearly had just gone through hell:

That pepper on it's face, I love it.

Anyways, I get sidetracked. You will love the SM-10s.

Personally, I’d do it yourself. Most wheel coatings are in the $60 range. Super easy to do, especially when they’re brand new. Quick clean, hit them with some panel prep then the coating. Much easier to clean. Apex Detail (in Philly) makes a wheel coating that is made for track use. Blue Collar 6 is the wheel coating

Good choice on the apex set. I have a set of gunmetal SM-10 and a set of black VS-5RS

I just ordered a set of EC-7RS 18 x 11 satin black for 315/30/18 Hosier R7’s (track only) They will get carpro dlux too. It’s very easy to do. $42.99 on Amazon is enough to do a set. Apex has got their sh@t together. Ordered it last night and it shipped today.
