Hi all,

I'm seeking advice on a wheel and tire setup for my 2016 Mustang GT. Right now, I've got the base model 18-inch 235/50/18 wheels, but I'm planning to upgrade during the winter while it's in storage to get it ready for spring. I want to go with a square setup, and I'm considering the SVE R350 19x10 wheels, or what ever 19x10 wheels that will fit in my budget.

For tires, I’ve been looking at either Continental DWS06 all-seasons or Firestone Indy 500s. I've seen recommendations for running 285/35/19 tires all around with a square setup, but I wanted to get your input. Do you think this would work well for a daily driver with some spirited driving on weekends? Any pros or cons with this setup or other suggestions? Also, I plan to make the car FBO and e85 in the future so I need a permanent setup

Thanks in advance for the help!

19x10 w/ 285/35R19 is a fantastic setup and the SVE wheels are good too.

Just pick a good tire to go on there and you should be pretty happy with it!

285/35R19 or 295/35R19 seem to be pretty popular square setups. You can achieve both without any crazy mods or sharp camber angles. 285/35R19 is especially easy to achieve, and there are a lot more 10" wide wheel options vs 10.5" which you'll need if you want to maximize contact patch of a 295 tire. While you're at it consider selecting an offset that you can run on all four corners, so your wheels are square as well, then you can fully rotate your tires.

I've recently gone down this rabbit hole myself and will be making similar changes this winter as well. I'm waiting for Black Friday to see if there are any deals on wheels ;)

Whatever tire you choose just stay away from the Nittos….I’m running the SVE 335R on 285/35/19 square that came with the Nittos…I have no experience with the Firestones but from what I’ve read here on the forums I haven’t read any complaints.

Well the Indy 500 is ok for the price, but it won't be awesome for FBO grip on the steet. its also a summer tire.

DWS06 is an all-season. Do you need an all-season where you live? (If youngstown, then I assume you do, so the DWS is probably your choice.)

So those are kind of apples to oranges.

When you go FBO later you can always try different tires. Grip is more about tire compound, not width, so a 285 with the right tire should be fine. You can't make a shitty tire great just by buying a wide one, and narrow sticky tires still grip (until they overheat, which is very rare with street driving)

Why not? Are you concerned about grip? Like NightmareMoon said, grip is more about tire compound than section width when considering the tire itself, at least to an extent. Suspension will also greatly impact grip. It all depends on the goals you have for the car. When you go FBO and you want to maximize grip, consider a drag pack maybe?

Conti DWS06's are great tires. But also consider the Extreme Contact Sport 02 if you do not "need" an all season tire. If you do want an all season, look at the General G-Max AS07's. General is a subsidiary of Continental and shares a lot of the same technologies. I have used the AS05 and AS07 tires on other vehicles and I really feel they are the best value for the dollar all season tire. I actually have a set of the AS07's in my storage unit for my Mustang to wear this "winter" (Oklahoma) but my car may or may not be totaled.......waiting on insurance crap.

AS05 is the older version. I have them on my GTI for DD and they kick ass. I just put the AS07 on my Explorer ST and they are significantly better than the Pirelli Scorpions from the factory. Can't comment on the AS07's for my Mustang yet.

have you tried them on wet 34F roads though? Cold+Dry no problem. Cold+Wet was not acceptable to me. The DWS do fine though.

With my GTI (AS05), yes. Zero issues. I have not had the chance to test the AS07's yet since it is still friggin 90 degrees in October here.

As far as tires, unless you live in a warm weather all year round area, I wouldn't go with the Firestones. The DWS06 are great all year round in hot and cold. I have the DWS06's and love them. I have the 285/35r19 in the rear on 10 inch wide wheels. It looks perfect to me. I have 255/40r19 on the front with a 8.5 inch wheel.
