Correct me if I'm wrong, but was this because the shifter was not mounted to the transmission and body flex was the problem?
Probably has a lot to do with it. I still have the stock shifter body mounted but with an aftermarket clutch and haven't been locked out since.

LOL at some of these comments.

~ LOCKOUT : tends to happen after you bounce it off the limiter cause yer not paying attention.
~ Gears "grinding" tends to happen cause yer trying to hero shift & NOT fully depressing the clutch.
~ 18's definitely had a fork problem.

There is nothing wrong with the MT82. ANY MT82 is NOT a racing transmission. They're a MASS PRODUCED unit tailored for the 95% of mundane drivers out there. IF you want a racing MT82, then you best UPGRADE it. I'm actually surprised they hold together with the amount of abuse it endures.
This guy is my hero. Mt82 great for daily driving. Start snapping gears and anything much more that stock HP and torque, you're in borrowed time territory. Best option would be before your stock one breaks, buy or get a build one and resell your good stock on for 1k to 1500. Don't wait till your stock one is only worth a core price.

I've had good luck with 2015-2017 MT82s. I had a couple of 2011s with MT82s that I didn't like as much due to crunchy shifts. I haven't owned 2018+ MT82s, because I don't like the gear ratios as much.

Edit: and I've owned a GT350, so comparing to the Tremec IMO the MT82 is fine. The MT82 is better shifting EXCEPT for if it's very hot 90F or higher or you are on track. In typical MN weather 50-70F the MT82 functions more smoothly than the Tremec. The MT82 is also better for shifting quickly than the Tremec. Ford did put a great clutch in the GT350. I'd love to have a better clutch in my 2017.

Do you have a link to something showing that's when ford switched? If it was mid 19, my shift forks have held an ungodly amount of abuse! 😂

Talk to Calimer Transmissions, they have what was changed and when. I remember talking to them regarding possibly chaning the ratios in the MT82D4 on a rebuild they said it wasn't possible. They are the ones who told me when the shift forks were changed.

Found this:

MT82 (Getrag)
380ft-lbs rated at
4250 kg gross vehicle weight is approximately 9,370 lbs.
6500 kg maximum towing capacity is approximately 14,330 lbs.

the MT82 transmission is capable of handling a gross vehicle weight that's more than twice the weight of a Mustang, and a maximum towing capacity that's more than three times the weight of a Mustang.

Do you recommend Calimer? My 2016 Eco has an input shaft bearing failure. It's a pretty rare fault but happened with me. Car drives fine but the noise is unbearable, sounds like there is sand and rocks in the fluid.

Talked with Calimer on the phone and he recommended me a Stage 1 rebuild.

Then why a ft-lb rating less than what the car's output??

I must be a bit slow, can you elucidate?
Extrapolate and it works out to be around 600ft-lbs for a 4000lb car.
