Somewhere in 2019 Ford fixed most of the issues. My MT82D4 was flawless for my 2020.
I think it may have been for all the 19 and up. My 19 was built in 18 and the trans is still kicking at 101,xxx miles. No shift fork issues. Sitting around 700whp and abused daily. I never thought it would live this long but here I am.

Most of the problems were the pre 2019s.

I feel like partially yes theyre stronger and yes theyre weak but i think since your twin turbo, that minimal lag helps keep the punch of 700 whp not be so hurtful to the drivetrain, i am still fearful my tranny will go. I still have a clutch and fluid swap to do, but after all the mt82 breaks, i wont trust it, especially when i eventually hit e85 power

I'm not saying the mt82 is a good trans but they upgraded the shift forks which was their biggest flaw. Some live long lives and some don't. I think the majority of newer ones last longer because of the design change.

The only issue with the MT82D4 is the ratios. When 4th became 1:1 it killed a lot of the performance from the GTs.

But with the slight bump in compression and hp they run basically identical times. So really it's more of a seat of the pants feeling you lose and not actual speed. If I ever planned on staying na I probably would have geared it higher. The mt82-d4 gearing is a match made in heaven if you plan on boosting.

Sorry misunderstood...
Just clarifying. People are on both sides of whether all 19s or in 19 the change happened. I couldn't tell you exactly when it was but my 19 has been solid so I assume it was all 19s???

The change was actually midway through the 2019 model yr.

LOL at some of these comments.

~ LOCKOUT : tends to happen after you bounce it off the limiter cause yer not paying attention.
~ Gears "grinding" tends to happen cause yer trying to hero shift & NOT fully depressing the clutch.
~ 18's definitely had a fork problem.

There is nothing wrong with the MT82. ANY MT82 is NOT a racing transmission. They're a MASS PRODUCED unit tailored for the 95% of mundane drivers out there. IF you want a racing MT82, then you best UPGRADE it. I'm actually surprised they hold together with the amount of abuse it endures.

Do you have a link to something showing that's when ford switched? If it was mid 19, my shift forks have held an ungodly amount of abuse! 😂

On the stock clutch I had third gear lock out well before the limiter. Over 6800 was a crap shoot sometimes. Didn't happen a lot but enough to be a nuisance.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but was this because the shifter was not mounted to the transmission and body flex was the problem?

I always thought that goofy design didn’t made any sense, added the blowfish mount & I haven’t had any issues since
