Getting ready to do my first change tomorrow and thinking of going with 5w30 instead of 20.

Car gets DD regardless of weather and M-F it sees a 80 mile round trip.

I don't track it but do a few WOT pulls each week. Might see the drag strip 1-2 times this year, maybe.

Wondering if stepping up to 30 will be beneficial, and what you guys run.

Oil cap on my '22 calls for 5w30. I run Driven Racing DI30 (5w30).

Makes it easy. I run the same oil in my 3.5EB truck and Mach 1. Will probably go thicker in the Mustang once I add boost.

My oil cap and manual says 5w20. The manual does say to use 30 for "track use".

What's different from '20 to '22 I wonder?

5w30 pennzoil platinum plus or liquid Molly. I have used Castrol edge euro.if the other two were not available and it did well. Get yourself passenger side catch. You can thank me later.

I can guarantee you that there isn't an internal change. I really think the viscosity chosen has more to do with the EPA than anything else. Ford was probably tired of customer complaints from the BBQ tick and oil consumption and decided to choose a better viscosity.

They changed to recommending 5w30 in 2021.

No difference. Internally they are identical. So I run 5W30... I use Liquimoly Molygen.

5w-30 Mobil 1 full synthetic
5w-50 Mobil 1 full synthetic if Supercharged…

Roush recommends this for 5.0 V8’s Supercharged. They clearly have tested this for the warranty program.

Mobil 1, sadly, isn't what it used to be. Their regular versions no longer use a synthetic base stock. It's not even legally synthetic in other countries. That's why you see the "European" versions where it is actual synthetic and carries a different API certification. So, if using Mobil 1, you want the European version or possibly the Extended Performance version.

My '19 is also a daily driver. Based on the change in Ford's recommendations, as discussed in the various "Similar Threads" noted below, I switched to 5w-30 Motorcraft full synthetic. I also switched my oil cap. My Blackstone oil reports have always been excellent (even before I switched a few changes ago). I can't point to any specific benefits I have noted, but 5w-20 just doesn't seem like an appropriate oil weight for a high-performance engine.

Well I already bought the oil because the responses were a little slow.

Errored on the side of caution and got 5w20.

I'll get 5w30 next time.
