If you plan to have it dyno'd or are working with someone using SCTs software, don't worry about issues with the SCT. Just had the car dyno tuned by Dan at Pro Dyno and I don't think it could be any more perfect. Just do research before ordering a tune/tuner guys.
Werent you the guy with the corsa exhaust? What numbers did you make?

So here's what I can conclude from this thread:

1. There are some super fanboys here of different tuning devices and tuning companies
2. Nobody has said what the specific "limitations" of the SCT is, but other devices can/may not be able to datalog
3. There are people here steering people to whatever tuner they want to sell more of

SCT is a tried and true tuning device for how long? I don't think there's any reason not to trust it.

Just got a new tune from Justin at vmp for my auto. He's got it. Shifts wonderfully now.

1) There are always fan boys, can't be helped.
As far as steering toward devices, we are an SCT dealer, and we make money to sell the SCT device. I actually make $0 if I sell the hypertech box for lund. I am just putting the info out there.

Like I said, eventually sct will open up more parameters, they always do. The new x4 is much nicer than the x3 or previous handhelds. But, it will take time for them to get everything mapped out. I have no problem selling and x4 to a customer as I know they are eventually going to get it sorted out.

However, there are customers that want things like converters and such that will not be able to get the tunes to work the way they want them to currently.

The limitations only exist if the tuner attempts to convert from one software to another (ie HP tuners to SCT). SCT is fine. My comments earlier were not clearly defined, while not inaccurate, they're certainly off base after seeing what Dan from Pro Dyno did with my car today. Tune is perfect and he used SCT.

Well I'm not going to steer anyone to any certain company or be a fan boy. I'm just going to post my experience thus far with the tuners & tunes I have purchased and installed. Say what you will... This is my story...

I purchased an SCT X4 from Bama/AM and just didn't feel like it did much other than raise the limiter to 7k. Then dealing with the random drop in rpm and surging going down the highway randomly was pretty annoying. Cold starts leaving the house was the same thing surging till it got up to temp then it was ok. Don't get me wrong they both are great companies, great people and I'm sure they will get it down. I will still buy other parts from AM.

Deciding that maybe I was expecting to much, I thought I would contact Lund because of the results I had seen, and their reputation. Jon Lund II called me personally and I told him I wanted to give their tunes a shot. He got my specs and sent me the ugly box. LOL (I personally don't care what it looks like as long as it gets the job done) Got it today and went on an hour drive and took it to my favorite quarter mile test road... All I can say is Unbelievable! This is what I expected from the CAI, Tune and Catback. No surging... no cold start issues... 4 to 7k was ripping! The car was so much more violent all I could do is SMH and smile. When the HP tuner comes out, I will have one. From here on out Jon Lund II and Lund Racing will be tuning my Mustangs.:thumbsup:

I've never had issues with SCT, so I tend to stick with them. Plus, for other platforms I run, they are the only ones that the respected tuners will use.

Their interface could use a major facelift, but for the most part, they're not bad.

Is the Bama SCT X4 locked for only Bama tunes or can anyone that makes tunes for SCT be used?
