Trap probably would be similar but I bet you'd pick up a tenth or two.
Assuming it was making more horsepower due to higher octane. Trap will definitely pick up a mile an hour or two.

Owners Manual recommends 87 octane for all three engines, including the 2.3 EB. They recommend higher octane for "severe duty such as trailer tow". I assume that doesn't apply to commuters.
Yep. Facts.

I use the highest octane in my (high elevation) area, which is usually 89 or 91. At some point I will try the midgrade octane to determine if it has any noticeable power & mileage impact on my GT. I had a Nissan Altima with the 3.5 motor and anything less than high octane was VERY noticeable in both power and mileage. Perhaps higher elevation plays a larger role in my case than those who are closer to sea level.

My Maxima with the 3.5 was very noticeable when not using premium. The exhaust note actually changes.

I'll run 93 through the summer but probably switch to 87 for the winter. I don't need 435 hp when it's cold, rainy, and snowy :p

The only true FACT is. Running the premium doesn't hurt your engine. Running lower might. The worst is EB running anything less than premium. Absolutely crazy. With those great mpg's you're saving pennies and not even that when the computer pulls timing and your mpg drops. EB owners... run super if you care about your car.

Thanks forum engineer!

I'm sure glad you chimed in and saved me from imminent DOOM!

To tl;dr this thread:
Running 87 on a stock tune will NOT hurt your engine...period. It is designed to run safely all its life on 87. Should you want more performance or find yourself driving in taxing ways (track, towing, anything putting consistently high load on the engine), run premium. It's that simple. If you're tuned for premium, run premium.

Why buy a high performance engine only to starve it? I have a Lund Flex tune. I go between 93 and E85. I can feel the difference between the two and primarily run E85 because of it's improved performance. If with gas prices as low as they are people are buying the cheapest gas to save a few pennies they may want to consider trading their Mustang for a Prius.

All it takes is one missed pre-ignition not detected by the knock sensor and boom goes your piston.
I would rather use a fuel that will completely eliminate possible pre-ignition at any time.

this is why I run 93 with a stock motor in my S550...I'm not about taking chances.

So are any of you guys running on higher than 95RON? If so is it worth doing? Shell power is rated at 98.5RON and tesco do a 99RON fuel. I was planning on using those two but it sounds like the coyote doesn't demand the highly explosive stuff to run cleanly.

Theoctane has nothing to do with "explosive". It is a term to define how long it burns, or the speed it burns. IIRC, you want a flame front to progress 33ft/sec.
