What is Ford thinking ?

My 2020 has the bubble type mfg 12/19. My question is are there any functional differences in the radio, gps, etc between the 2020 with the bubble type and shark fin type. On Sirius/XM site shows 2019 traffic and 2020 traffic+, so does it matter which antenna for 2020. Ford or Sitius has no answer when asked.

Nope. The shark fin is just a cost savings thing. On the bubble style the GPS antenna and the cellular antennas are separate. The cell array is under the back bumper.

I put a sharkfin cover on my 2016 gt/cs to cover the stupid serious radio disc on my roof when i vinyl wrapped my top gloss black. I like it much better.

Also another that likes the fin, looks more finished. Hockey puck looks a bit like an after thought.

In the end not a concern one way or the the other.

It came from the whole "my car is spying on me" threads. People chased all the connections for both antennas. Basically the shark fin consolidated both the original radio/GPS antennna AND the multiple cellular antennas on the job 1 car into just two antennas built into the same unit. I don't see how the shark fin could cost more* based on that, job 1 cars have multiple cellular antennas mounted on each side of the bumper and a longer wiring run to the TCU.
