Thanks for the input. My service manager has already corresponded with Ford engineer and the protocol is to try the driveshaft balance / replacement first before going further and looking at other possibilities. They can't find a local place with the required balancing machine so they have to order a driveshaft. Looks like I'll get a new driveshaft whether I need one or not.
Yeah - my diff was replaced after they tried a driveshaft. There doesn’t seem to be anyone in So Fla who can balance one either. Not sure what’s special about these driveshafts.

Well, I believe my current driveshaft may be good, I don't want a new one that may truly give me the 50-70 mph vibration problem... we'll see.

The vib comes from the DS/Diff joint. Try the two hose clamp balance at that joint on the driveshaft. It should reduce the vib, it did for me.

Im curious for those of you with vibration/booming/sound etc. How bad is it? Can you describe how you notice it?

I notice like a cat puuring sound? lol around 75. I can go to 81 and it goes away, slow down and you can hear it come on. Some roads i hear it more then other roads. But ONLY with the windows up and radio down, its annoying. Had tires balanced made it better, but here i am about 5k later and its back. My mirror dosnt vibrate, the car at 50mph is completely symptom free. It kind of pisses me off, had the car for 6 months, modded it etc. IDk if this is the issue or just normal mustang on the freeway absorbing the inconsistencies of the road? Its the only car i can recall doing this, and after replacing puddle lamps, lug nuts, horn, brake booster, im kinda over it and ready to sale and get something not mustang.

i been to 2 dealers that dont hear it. One held my car for over a week and just balanced tires, and scratched the bumper. No one hears it but me i guess

The driveline vibe won’t be inconsistent over various road surfaces - in fact, if you have the vibe, the sound and feeling (harmonics) will remain the same over distance, road surfaces and in the discussed MPH/RPM ranges where most folks are experiencing the issue.

If you are hearing the sound change based on road surfaces changing, then that can be attributed to the tires where the tread will always sound different if it goes from say blacktop to cement, or say from a super smooth surface to one where the mix content contained more pebbles, etc.

The problem (as outlined in previous posts) is that *most* Ford Service Centers won’t take the car on a lengthy test drive! Meaning the test drive should not be a 7min jaunt around the block through some back yard neighborhood, not one where the driven speed is less than 50mph and certainly not one where the traffic pattern is stop-n-go. You have to explicitly ask and (politely) demand that your test drive be taken out on a local highway, that the drive must be within the problematic MPH (at what speed it is MOST noticeable on YOUR vehicle, as each member has experienced varying speeds) AND most importantly, on open highway where the speed can be maintained for at least a good 15-20 minutes. Also, make sure all accessories inside the vehicle are OFF (HVAC, stereo, etc) and windows are up.

You want the Tech to go below the speed limit where the vibe does not exist, bring it up to the speed limit where the vibe is first present AND then bring the speed to where vibe either gets far worse OR starts to taper off. This is important and why the test drive must be at minimum of 15-20+ minutes so that the Tech gets to actually feel what you (the owner) feels.

Hypothetical Example for test drive:
0-40mph no vibe at all
41-57 vibe is becoming present
58-62 vibe is at its worse
63-70+ vibe starts to taper off after 70

Don’t go into the Service Center saying you “hear” something - because the Tech will only zero in on trying to “hear” something! You want to stress the fact that your vehicle has a driveline vibration - that you FEEL the vibration and state the speed at which you FEEL it, and where you feel it (floorpan, trans tunnel, steering wheel, door panels, etc). Do not mention anything about “hearing” a noise - you’ll lose the Tech right from the start - because 95% of them won’t hear a damn thing.

Also ask that you be present or GO WITH THE TECH on the test drive so that you can prove your point and help the Tech along to really understand and EXPERIENCE the problem. If you don’t have faith in a regular Tech, you can request that the Shop Foreman go on the test drive instead.

There is a lot of Tech and provided info in this thread - don’t let the Service Centers tell any one of you this is a normal characteristic, that it’s your tires, that they don’t feel anything etc. If the test drive is done properly as outlined above, most of you will have success in getting your concern addressed properly.

IF for any reason you’re not satisfied with the Service Center outcome, call the Ford Customer Service number and request the Regional Rep for your area and lodge a complaint and let them know how dissatisfied you really are with the poor Service you received, the poor quality of the vehicle and how you bought a new car only to have such a problem (in a professional manner) - yelling, screaming or creating a bitch fest won’t get you anywhere with them if you expect the outcome to be in your favor.

Ford Corporate KNOWS this is an issue, otherwise there would not be TWO SSM’s released about the problem...

Holy moly excellent post man thank you for taking the time to write this. I'm going to be read this a few times rotate my tires this weekend then go from there. I think you prove a lot of good points here about length of time driven and importantly bot saying its a noise but a driveline vibration. I think shop forman is where I am headed if I can confirm its not my tires. I can replicate it going from 80 to 75 same noise all the time. I notice it most on rougher surfaces but yes I think it's still there all the time. I really appreciate this post and this gives me the best direction I can. I do love the car just not this noise or feeling of whatever it is.

Funny how the community is more supportive then the dealers themselves LMAO.

Yes - thank you! Another idea is to have them put the car on a rack where they can lift the rear wheels and run the car up to speed. That takes all the road/tire noise factors out of the equation. I had my wheels balanced on the car and heard & felt the vib clear as day.

Yeah one dealer did this but said it wasn't safe to get up to 75 on the rack but would go 65 wth is that lol. I got tires checked lug replaced and no change. Might just go to a drive line shop or sell the car. I'm leaning on selling the car

I just got an update from my Ford Service Manager. They received the new driveshaft from the factory but are waiting on Ford to send a new tool:

"new tool that will allow us to perform the on-car electronic balancing procedure in a more precise manner. The tool comes from Ford and unfortunately I don't have an arrival date as of today. It is called VCMM - Vehicle Communication & Measurement Module."

I'm thinking it's this:

https://rotunda.service-solutions.com/en-US/Pages/ItemDetail.aspx?SKU=164-R9822

Anyone have an opinion as to whether this will make a difference?

Im getting a updated driveshaft on my 15 as well. Not so much addressing the vibration, but addressing a metal clank sound i got when shifting, and comming to a stop. So im hopeful. Should have it installed this week

Soooooo
Ford hasn’t fixed this yet correct? They’re still replacing gears, driveshafts, rims etc ... with no luck. I want mine fixed but I want to wait till they actually know what’s wrong.
