Look at this misinformation, acting like that power plant failed for some reason other than a giant tidal wave hitting it. You’re either misinformed or intentionally trying to misinform.

You sound like a shill for big oil posting this here.
Hello; The cause for the Japanese nuclear plant failure was a tidal wave so I agree saying it was old age is misinformation.

I do not get how his/her post is like a shill for big oil?

I am gonna blow your mind here.

Did you know when it’s overcast or raining the suns energy is still coming thru the clouds?

it’s how you can still SEE with your eye balls.
😳
It does, but my solar panel output drops to 20% of it's rated output, not nearly enough to keep my house powered up.

Could a Giant Fireproof Blanket Be the Solution for Stubborn EV Battery Fires? (msn.com)

Hello; Interesting link. Here is my idea. Make these fireproof blankets also be a car cover if that is possible. Since my thinking currently is to park any EV I wind up with outside having a fire dampening cover might be a workable thing.
I get that car covers need to be breathable and fire suppressant blankets likely need to be airtight. May not be doable.

Let me borrow a page form the "true believers" handbook and make the car cover/fire blanket one of the future things surely soon to be here. Or is it I should say that future is already really here already. I get confused about how to talk about things that do not yet work as if they are real.

There's people reading this and denying the reality of the situation.

To them, EVs are the future, and that's it. Reality be damned.

the efficiency rating of solar panels in the best of conditions is shit. absolute garbage
you start pouring water on those things and you get basically nothing.

did you know an octopus eye can see super good in the dark because it doesn't have any kind of UV protection? ya know why? BUCKLE UP BUDDY CAUSE IMMABOUT TO BLOW YO MIND... its cause it lives in... the WATER. you know, that stuff clouds and rain is made out of? that stuff.

This is only a misinformation as long as you do not go into detail.

Over here, we just sink burning EV into a roll-off dumpster full of water.
Every waste disposal company here has such containers, i.e. they are easily available.

These fire blankets: https://bridgehill.com/fire-blankets/extreme/
Heat resistance (permanent): 1500° C
Heat resistance (short-term): 2500° C

16.5 x 16.5 feet costs ~$2500
26 x 20 feet costs ~$4000

I would never argue politics or environmentalism or technology or religion with people on a car forum. That is a fools errand.

I am not sure why you all are trying so hard here, nobody is convinced by anyones arguments in a place like this. We all come here with our minds made up.

But I am enjoying all the replies and likes I am receiving for laughing at the guy who called the sun unreliable.

Hello; From time to time a worthwhile bit of new information comes along. True it does not happen often, but such does happen. Best reason to post for those who stay close to facts is to not let unsubstantiated opinion be touted as facts.

I cannot say if discussions on here change any minds. I just do not have that information one way or another. This EV-green energy mind set is a danger if allowed to be put into place when it is not technically ready to do the tasks required at this time. The notion of using renewables is fine and may at some point be ready.

Let me include your laugh at the notion the sun is not reliable comment. The solar energy idea often starts with the understanding that the total amount solar energy striking the entire earth is huge compared to the amount of energy needs we humans have. The idea is simple. Just harness as much of that energy as you need. This is the point where many skip over some vital bits.
The sun is reliable in that it, so far, has shined 24/7 for billions of years. However, at any one place on earth that solar energy is not available on average for half an earth rotation. Day-night. In my area during the summer I get more hours of sunlight than during the winter. Also during summer at my latitude the suns rays are a bit more direct than in the winter months.

Side bit- I used a filmstrip projector to illustrate the importance of direct and indirect light. Hold a big square of poster board (cardboard) a few feet from a projector at a 90-degree angle (perpendicular). The circle of light will be of a size. Then tilt the cardboard at an angle without moving it closer or further away. The now oval of light will be spread over a larger area of the posterboard. Key point is direct rays of light are more concentrated per square inch and less concentrated at an angle. (NOTE- the 23 1/2 degree tilt of the earths axis does this)

So, in the winter when I need solar energy the most for heat I get less time and les energy per square inch on my solar panels. I will stop now but there is much more. The reliability of solar energy ought to be considered with context in mind.

Just a plug for the poor residents there... while it is super ironic this happens to a place that is bent on loading more onto their power grid and utilities it totally sucks to have to deal with failing services BEFORE any of this other stuff happens. I've got friends out there and they struggle with all of this jazz daily living wise (and some have left). A reminder that average Surfin' Sams and Sun Skyes are suffering the heat and problems trying to live. fwiw
