No its basically a power cycle without the waiting, the BCM controls power to the APIM (Sync). After 15 or so minutes of the car parked and off the BCM shuts power to the APIM down. Doing it the way I mentioned just saves you the time and guesswork of waiting.Does that do a hard re-set where updates need to be done again?
You can also do it like @illadvised said and pull the battery, but then you need a wrench. The button combo can be done while driving quickly.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but its a quick thing to try.
I didn't think to ask OP at first, but if the issue exists after letting the car sit for a bit something's definitely cooked.
