Does that do a hard re-set where updates need to be done again?
No its basically a power cycle without the waiting, the BCM controls power to the APIM (Sync). After 15 or so minutes of the car parked and off the BCM shuts power to the APIM down. Doing it the way I mentioned just saves you the time and guesswork of waiting.

You can also do it like @illadvised said and pull the battery, but then you need a wrench. The button combo can be done while driving quickly.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but its a quick thing to try.

I didn't think to ask OP at first, but if the issue exists after letting the car sit for a bit something's definitely cooked.

Did this start before the recall work, or after?

His cord didn't work with whose phone? His or yours?
Before. Neither his or mine. But you have me thinking. 3 years ago I had the infamous ac evaporated replaced. So the removal of the dash and console may have something to do with it.
Thanks

The only thing common network 3 ports is fuse.if it didn't work with techs cord it can't be cord.its fuses 53 and 54 20amp fuses.you can look at them and see if they're bad.you can also just swicth the 20 Amp with another to verify which one us bad
I've got extra fuses which I always do with cars.just a suggestion.
I’m pretty sure he checked the fuses but I will.

👍

Hold down the skip forward arrow and the power button until sync resets, the system is honestly very unreliable and sometimes requires a full hard reset to get working again. It can and does shut off charging to the ports if there is a software error.

If it still doesn't work, and you've verified that the phone and the cable are good then its likely the USB hub inside the center console. They do fail.

Fords Sync system is kind of bad if I'm honest, I've had issues on multiple Fords with it.
Ok thanks everyone!

Now that I know that each port is fused searately.the odds are slim you blew both fuses.unless there's a short in the charger itself and you sequentially connected them and blew each fuse.to me its simple to check the fuses before I started touching sync.but I'm a 78 year old engineer.who likes
simple and hates software

I want to be balanced in my appetite for technology vs analog feel… So I insist on manual transmission and Apple CarPlay. 😎

I don't see it mentioned yet, but I had to replace my ports. Mine failed eventually and I saw a thread here (somewhere) where it wasn't all that uncommon. I followed the troubleshooting steps of new cable, different phone, and then fuse. I ended up at the Ford parts counter.

Special bonus is you can switch to USB-C if you do the console ports and you have need for it.

So same thing happened to my previous Mustang. Fuse was ok but I removed the Sync module and it was fried!!! For some reason it melted the connection inside the module before blowing the fuse. I suggest you check your wiring from the USB to the module. Good luck.

Oh no! That’s too bad. It or parts of may still be around somewhere.
My 66 Chevelle had a 427/435 out of a wrecked 67. Had 77 Impala 427 emblems on it. Some thought it was factory.

Thanks I’ll look into it.
Do you have a part # and what is USB-C?

Check the phone’s charging slot. Sometimes a piece of lint will prevent a phone from charging. Also, agree on the usb cable as a possible culprit.
Fun story: was never able to satisfyingly remove the lint until my iPhone fell into sea water at the beach. After a couple of curse words and hours in a bag of rice, the lint started to fall off on its own. I don’t know if I have to recommend or not
Also, cheap knockoff lighting cables instead of the Apple ones are often the cause of my charging issues. Every other one of them seems to have a problem, which breaks the economic insensitive of not buying the overpriced Apple ones.

Both my USB ports do not work after Sync3 upgrade (got from a wrecked GT), I think it's because I ordered from my local Ford Dealer two USB cables which are supposed to replace the existing ones (at least they said that):

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384092709982
5277791
https://www.ebay.com/itm/405129403087

Instead I should have got FR3Z-14D202-A and FR3Z-14D202-B, do you guys think that's the problem?
