I am concerned getting a second hand R with all this oil consumption and engine replacements paraphernalia... but thinking of this, it seems that very few reports are from 16 generation cars, or R cars, am I right ? Mostly reported on 17 GT350's .
If you think you’re gonna have that itch, like @50 Deep talks about, you need to scratch it.

I agree with you about your concern about buying a used one. Not only for the suspicion of later model years consuming oil, but for the unknown of how the car was broken in and treated since.

I think you hit the million $$ question (in bold above). That would be excellent data to have but you’re only going to get a bunch of speculation.

Sounds like you haven’t driven an R, any members close to you who could give you a chance?

Good Luck:like:

I’ve been parked next to someone who has that wing, and they are very different in contours of the airfoil and even width of the wing. So it’s not a replica. You’re better off getting Ford’s new Swing if you want downforce.
FYI:
Anderson is coming out with a new R rear wing that's molded from a OEM one, they are also coming out with carbon Dog Bones

I’m a carbon fiber expert. I wish them the best.

It sounds like your GT350 track pack already fits your needs (occasional track day, mostly street driving) and is almost paid off. It would be different situation if the GT350 R had more power or a factory short shifting transmission upgrade that would justify upgrading. Otherwise, you are just getting better styling and sound (resonator delete) for your hard earned dollars for mostly street driving. If you were regularly pounding around the track, that is different story. I sold my 2007 911 turbo to purchase a GT350 R. I was shocked how comfortable the R is for street driving with Pilot Sport 4S tires. I would daily drive it without hesitation. I did some track upgrades to my 911 and unfortunately made it significantly less comfortable for street driving.

I would pay out of pocket in your situation to do a resonator delete or upgrade the shifter before I would take another loan to get into a GT350R.

See, that's the thing, I don't think this car needs anything, not even a shifter... I like the stock one and I hate the MGW or whatever they are with push down reverse; it' s like one of the cars I hated most, a Honda.
I think I made up my mind, it's not enough of an upgrade to worth the dollar... I will wait a bit, save and get my dream car after this (my wife luckily agrees with me, she's not against a Ferrari).
Thanks

Sounds like you made your choice. I had a 16 Track Pack and upgraded to an R. Car handles differently for sure, but the look and stance is hawt especially from the rear. I was at a Mustang vs Camaro meet over the weekend. Mad props from the Camaro guys and those that know what this car is you could hear telling their friend “That is rated one of the best driver's cars in the world”. An R commands top notch attraction at a car meet.

Total agree. No matter where you go, people are trying to get your attention, revving up, or taking pictures. I say that it’s like driving a Ferrari.

Sorry, but it’s not even close. I have a red 360 and there is no comparison to the levels of attention it gets vs my R. Not saying I like the attention, just a fact it’s not even close, and this is in muscle car city se mi.

I’m only speaking of the levels of attention that I get driving a GT350R. I’ve never been inside a base model.

I just made the swap - I sold my '16 Track Pack GT350 to buy a '19 GT350R. Prior to pulling the trigger, I thought I would regret the change, haven tracked and rally'd my '16 quite a bit. I have no regrets at all. The R is sharper in every way I wanted. The only issue I have is that the R is lower and the chin scrapes on just about everything.

You can do all sorts of mods to the GT350 to bring it close to an R, but it will never be an R for what ever its worth. I'd say if you have the opportunity, you should do it!

welcome to the forum and congrats on the R. what a car, eh?

i assume you didn't buy your R in CA. i've yet to find anyone on this forum who has gotten their R from a CA dealer. but maybe you're the first :)

Thank you! It is indeed amazing. I’m looking forward to getting on the track with it.

I did indeed get it in California, a few weeks ago. Dumb luck - happened to be in the right place at the right time. Dealer was stoked too, since they had the car sold before it was removed from the train.

Congrats! Pics when you get a chance. I bought my 18 R back in Oct. 1 hour into ownership, splitter scrape. Yesterday, splitter scrape. Lol. All from my driveway on the initial incline. Getting to the point where it's rare now tho. Practice helps.

FYI, if you're new with the R and its splitter, that thing sticks out enough where it's deceiving. For example, those parking stop blocks at Lowes or shopping centers where the bumper of most cars just parks "over", you will ruin your splitter with it. You've got to really move up super slow, stop, get out and check, then move up more. talking about these things...
