I'm looking to upgrade the shift knob on my still new to me 2019 GT Premium PP1. So far I'm liking this Hurst one:

https://www.americanmuscle.com/hurst-6-speed-shift-knob-white-1516.html

The reviews are favorable except I see folks talking about it being bigger than they expected. Seems a little expensive compared to some of the others as well in my opinion but I don't know a lot about these.

For those who have changed out the shift knob, specifically if you use the Hurst one, what are your thoughts? It also appears to be a pretty simple job, for those who have done it do you agree?

Thanks

I usually have the Bullit shift knob installed on my GT. Haven't tried the Hurst one but i like the shape and look of these retro style knobs far more than the stock leather knobs.

One thing to note, these tend to sit higher on the shifter so your shifts will feel a bit longer, but should feel easier and less notchy. I dont know what the weight of the Hurst is, but that will also make a big difference in how it feels. Heavier will probably shift quicker/easier but less feelsome.

I've never had to use locktite.

I have this exact knob. Was one of the first "mods" I did. Took about 10 minutes to swap out the factory knob. I did use a couple drops of blue locktite. I'm not a fan of the newer leather appointed knobs. As far as size, I never have noticed a difference. I'd say go for it - one of the easiest and simple cosmetic mods you can do.

I don't have the Hurst but I see it works without an adapter for reverse lockout which is a nice feature. I'd be more curious about the weight. The stock shift knob is quite heavy, which to me feels nice.

I liked this one. Little bit bigger than OEM. Easy job like Demon67 said. Made the car a little more fun.

What brand is that one and where did you purchase it?

American Muscle. It's probably still on their website. It was about $50 or so.

Edit, just checked. Not there anymore. It's the same size as she Bullitt knob. Prices are up too, of course.

My dad did a custom one from White Madness Garage. They’re heavier than the stock knob but he really likes it. I’ll see if I can a pic or two for you.

I went with the Bullitt knob from Ford performance… It was heavier than expected

I like it enough so that when I install my MGW shifter I will transfer it over … trying to keep that stock look.

I've been using a solid stainless steel knob from Shift Solutions for a bit over a year now. It weighs 1.1 lb and helps provide a solid shifter feel. Jam nut and Loctite applied to keep it from rotating.

I went with Shift Solutions BT knob that was on clearance. (I'm cheap)

I wanted a weighted knob that wasn't a brick and I didn't want it to be too hot to touch in the summer heat.

250 grams and like $40.

Stock photo but same knob as mine.
