I don't know that development costs are any higher, but there could be packaging issues fitting 2 60mm+ turbos and all the associated hardware in what looks to be a cramped engine bay. I definitely do not see them doing rear mount turbos. While I hope it is a twin turbo setup, I honestly believe any forced induction motor from the factory will be be supercharged (most likely Eaton TVS based), though I hope I am wrong.

I must be the only person in the world that doesn't like that blower whine. NA > TC > SC IMO.
I hate blower whine, especially in videos but IRL as well.

Not only the blower whine is awesome. For example make a summary between the Mercedes e63 with natural aspirated engine and the new 5.5Liter bi-turbo. The exhaust sound on the new 5.5L engine is more than bad it's harrowing (I hop that's the right word for bad^2). Sorry but there is nothing like a V8 it's sounds not good.

I am a Mercedes tech and have driven both quite a bit. I don't mean to sound offensive but you're crazy. The M157 5.5l BiTurbo is one mean sound mother especially when modded. The M156 6.2l NA engine is a loud raspy race engine which sounds terrible with anything other than OEM AMG exhaust. I'll post some videos later when I get out of work.

:-) yes, I am crazy about the exhaust sound. I ride both engines too.
If it's possible an I have a wish I want the rough engine sound and this bubble idle form an old V8 ( e.g. 351 from '69) and I love it when you go down from pedal a the engine slurred :-).

I would like to see several different variations of the Coyote. But the Supercharged... Turbocharged argument doesn't work, unless given the application. Raw power isn't always necessary. Some like their power delivery differently. Some like to have a more throttle'able low end, while others like those long gear pulls..

I think a $7k whipple 2.9l SC, 5.0 will be moAr than anyone would probably need. But a TT V6 would also bring interesting results & balance to the s550. The New Mustang will chase BMW M4 sales, if SVT offers a 2.7, or 3.7 EB.

Myself.. ? I hope to see a 4.0 FPC S/C DFI s550... :help:.

Twin turbos to get all that torque down low and carry it through the entire rev band... with the WIDE tires we have been seeing on the shelby prototypes we know this car will be able to put all that power down

Sorry but we are talking about the top version of the stang.
No one how likes the pony and the muscle car era want to have a 4.0L engine!
An American icon should have the DNA from its birth.

The new top version of the mustang will chase the dodge hellcat's and the camaro z28 and not a Bavarian
downsizing car or an new swabian with a 4.0 engine.

Whilst I'd love Mustang/SVT to trump the Hellcat, I do feel the horsepower war has to come to an end, what with CAFE and all.

I can certainly see a smaller capacity V8 in Mustang's future, but hopefully with forced induction.........BMW's 4.4 twin turbo in the M5/M6 would be a good target in my opinion..........and a 2.7 or 3.5 Ecoboost V6 further down the range would be great too.

If I were in charge though, we'd have a 5.2 CPC supercharged V8 in the GT500 with 708hp :D

I've read that more than a few times over the past few years. CAFE standards set required minimums for fleet averages. If Ford (and any other make for that matter) continues to develop and pump out little milk-jug-sized three-pots and hybrids/PEVs, they have leverage to continue making high powered fuel guzzlers. Remember that Top Gear episode where Clarkson's driving the AMV12 and gets all sappy about the end of an era? While I understand that there's some truth to that segment, look at what we've seen since that episode aired... that was FOUR years ago. We're still seeing batshit cars with power figures that shouldn't be available to the general public. This isn't going to end anytime soon, and even better is seeing the increased focus on lightweight material construction across the industry.

The biggest threat to auto enthusiasts is the manufacturers working to keep things fun. Performance and capability are one thing; driving fun is another. Pedestrian safety standards, crash standards, increasing standard features, and increasingly stringent fuel consumption/emission standards are continual obstacles.

I'm with you on that order, NA>TC>SC. I love the sound of the turbo Spooling and then the blow-off valve. It's an addicting sound.

Oh, I agree, and I hope Ford sells a bucket-load of 1 litre , 3-cylinder Ecoboosts in order that we can still have our big V8s :D

(do you guys get that little engine? It's in the Fiesta and Focus over here already.....the UK that is).

BUT.........there are industry trends and the German's had their own HP war, but they have been downsizing for a few years now. That doesn't mean to say their latest offerings are any less desirable though :)

The Mustang was originally a small sporty car meant to rival European sports cars and appeal to the youth market and secretaries.

That's true. I'd rather have an atmos engine with a linear power band making similar peak power to a smaller F/I engine, at least when we're talking high output. Ford's bringing the 1L stateside in 2015. I think BMW has a turbo 3-cylinder prepped for the near future too, and I think it's already available on the new Mini.

Yes that's also called pony car :-) long before the muscle car war started.
But it start not with a 4.0 V8 as top version.

The muscle car boom started long before the pony cars. Nevermind the Dart, GTO, Galaxy, Thunderbolt, Impala, or other "original muscle cars"(definition varies), the term muscle car was first used back in the late 40's and early 50's with the Hudson Hornet and Olds Rocket.
