Hey Guys,

I’ve got a small leak coming from my transmission. I took it to a local shop so i could put the car on a lift and see where it’s coming from. After inspecting it’s coming directly from the transmission near the front bell housing. Does this seem more of a Slave Cylinder leak or where the Input shaft connects to the transmission. My slave cylinder is brand new as I replaced it when I installed my aftermarket Vengeance stage 2 clutch around 2,500 miles ago. I know it may be hard to tell without dropping the transmission to check but just wanted to see what you guys think.

That's transmission fluid, so it's a leak at the front seal on the gearbox. I had a "few drops leak" like that a few years ago caused by the transmission being slightly overfilled.

We filled mine up back in April after the clutch job. Would you say from then to now is too much time for it to start leaking from being overfilled?

Before you go digging too far, check the routing of the vent bulb to make sure it's upright. The Mule's vent was misrouted and laying over on its side and I didn't discover it until it puked transmission fluid on the underside of the car.

Here's an overhead pic - sorta blurry - followed by the proper routing from the service manual. The bulb is located behind cylinder #8 (back of engine on driver's side). Definitely check to make sure that the top of the bulb is pointed straight up and that it's secured on the mounting post.

Thanks I will check this after work today. Do i need to remove anything from the engine bay to see? Or is it easily visible.

It's hard to say. In my case, it took a while and a track day to get the gearbox hot enough that the leak became visible. To check, all you have to do is get the gearbox warmed up (fluid expands) and put the car in the air (level on a lift) and remove the fill plug on the gearbox. If fluid comes out, it was overfilled. If fluid doesn't come out, then something else is probably wrong.

The bulb is somewhat hard to see - more of a feel thing. If your hands aren't too big, you should be able to work your way back behind the head and find the bulb and the clip that it is supposed to be on.

A small mirror-on-a-stick, borescope, or your phone camera may help get your bearings.

This is/was very easy to miss doing a clutch swap. Great post.

after inspection at the shop the vent bulb appears to be oriented in the correct position. The shop did say the seals on my transmission cooler lines looked a bit off and recommend I replace these before going ahead and dropping the trans. I took some pics of the seals what do you think? Do you think they are worth replacing?
