Track Square Set Up

Getting ready for first track day with my 2020 GT350. I went square with 305/35R19. I did not think there would be an issue, but I am seeing some noting the need for a spacer upfront. Any experience to share?

I run 305's all the way around. No problems no spacers

I run square 19" X 11.5" ET56 with a 35mm spacer in front to maintain a proper scrub radius. (I also have the Mach 1 fender lip to hide any poke)

A square setup refers to the same wheels front and back so you can rotate to preserve tire life.

I can't speak for the GT350, but GT's and Mach 1's will require extended front studs and wheel spacers.

if all you did was change the tire size then there's no need. However, if you change your wheels to a true square setup, you will likely need spacers in the front. I run a square setup from Apex wheels with a 25mm spacer in the front.

I suppose there's a wheel offset to get away with it but with the wheels I had purchased, extended studs and a spacer were a must. (MRR FS01 19x11 5x114.3 50et 70.5B, extended wheel studs and a 25 mm spacer).

All good then, but you cannot rotate tires this way without dismounting them from the wheels. Most people who do a "square setup" are really referring to the same size wheels and tires and keeping offset the same so that you can unbolt the wheels to rotate. This is what requires the move to a spacer and extended studs up front.

So, when you do a true square set up, are folks usually using the narrower fronts all the way around or the wider rears? I had a tough time finding used wheels as i didn't want to spend a billion dollars.

We almost all use aftermarket wheels to do so. Apex has a number of well priced wheel sets specifically designed for this. These are what I'm currently running.

I took the approach of using OEM aluminum wheels on my GT350. My square setup is four rear wheels 19x11" with GT350R front hubs and 38mm spacers. With this setup, you get exactly the same rim width and offset up front as a GT350R and the factory lug nuts work too. It's almost like the FP engineers planned it that way.
