I know - I browse that forum every now and then :like:

It was tongue in cheek, I was referring to the police chase guy that clocked 178 - I assume he may have been manual and / or aftermarket tuned ?

WD :like:
Oh, lol.... Was that guy a Roush?

According to the Cannonball record setter max is 158 mph (though this could be rentals only). I think most tune companies can remove the limiter :?
Also Hennessy did a 207 mph run with the HPE750.

This was going to be my comment! The guy said that under no circumstances would the car go faster than the factory limit (not modified).

I have topped at 159 And same thing, it just would not go any faster.

It was my understanding that they were electronic limited to 157, but mine only does 154. Radar detector GPS speed said ~155. With the 10 Speed and 3.55's, I was at like 6800rpm in 7th so I didn't have much more speed left anyway.
3 whole gears left...

Didn't the 178 MPH figure come from the suspect himself? No LEO ever confirmed his top speed. I'm sure we can trust the suspect to tell the truth about his top speed during this chase . . . . not.

My Ecoboost with no computer reprograming, but mildly modified, pulls like gangbusters right up to 123 and then just suddenly stops pulling like I backed out of it. My Son's old Eco did the same thing and his, tuned and modded heavily, would walk away from mine, but they BOTH would run side by side at 123 and no faster.

Yes but 7th is the 10R80's 1:1. Everything past that wouldn't get you much more speed.
Gears past 7th might not even be able to give you as much speed as 7th gave you . . .

The real top speed of the 6 speed is 140mph in 5th, you can get to the limiter which is 155mph located in 6th gear, but the second you shift into 6th its a total buzzkill. Its an overdrive gear, sure it will get you there but its no fun.

Top speed with the Mustangs is achieved with the 1:1 ratio, which can be either 4th or 5th with the manuals, 7th with the A10s, and don't know with the A6s. On the Bullitt, with supposedly a slightly higher top speed of 163 (vs 155), it's reportedly pretty close to redline. I don't think 5th can maintain top speed on the MT82-D4 versions, but 6th on both cannot. And same with 8th on the A10s, but no way the last 2 ratios.

A hellcat owner here made the news when he was caught doing over 180 on 696 here near Detroit when Michigan was completely shut down back in May I believe. He got off with just a ticket.
Freakin' 696!!!!

I might have done a bit of speeding on that freeway, a time or two. Many, many years ago.

696 is well known as the place to max your vehicle. Well known.

When I had my '11 GT500 the limiter was 155. Read multiple places that it was due to tire ratings and safety. Also why the 2010 Raptor had a limiter of 99mph. 155 on a 2 lane wooded road made me not want to ever really go that fast again. Current GT been to 138 but I blame it's comfort and deceptive speed and was truly surprised when I noticed. Most patches of Mexico aren't that big here if you want to maintain that good drivers reward.
