Only reason I care about top speed is that I need the limiter to kick in no earlier than 120. Not so I can cruise on a highway at that speed or anything...but because if I ever mod a GT or new-turbo an EB I'll need that much headroom for my quarter mile trap :D

If your modding for any of that your limiter will be removed due to the tune required for those things.

The sad thing is the V6 and Eco are more than capable of 155. They should have set them to that and unrestrict the GT. At least a 180 speedometer like the Boss would have been prefered.

The two piece driveshaft was one of the reasons (along with tires) was one the main reasons that they limited those cars.

With this being a all new body and rear set up for world sales. Is the limited top speed changed? I'm sure V6 & ecoboost owners wouldn't like getting passed at 115 by honda accords & kia optimas. Who can do a limited 130.
I don't remember the top speed for the new V6 but the EcoBoost is limited to 145 mph and the GT tops out at 155 mph

EB is limited to 121, same as the V6, unless it's equipped with the PP. Then it's limiter is upped to 145. Yes for the GT

With speed limiter off on a stock 5.0 (2011-14) what has the engine top speed been?

I think when I researched online, it was upper 160's for the manual and low 170's for the Auto due to better top speed gearing.

121MPH? Dang, then it would have a LOWER top speed than a regular 1.6 EB Focus which is capped at 129 (in Europe at least). I find that somewhat hard to believe tbh.

Edit: Come to think of it, you would be overtaken by quite a margin by a Fiesta ST with it's max speed of 136mph. LOL

The top speed is limited electronically by Ford. It's not it's physical limits. Get a tune, remove the limiter and it can go faster. At least in America. They might up the limiter for across the pond. If the EU only gets PP EB's then it's at least 145.

... will the tires on EB and V6 handle 120+mph?

Probably the reason they upped it to 145 on the PP. Although I am unfamiliar as to what tires are on the EB models. But considering the lowest Electronic limiter on the mustang is 121, the answer to your question would be yes.

If I recall correctly, the 2015 Mustangs all come with Pirelli P-Zero's.

Pirelli P Zero (summer) tires have a speed rating Y (=186mph/300kph)
Pirelli P Zero Nero (all-weather) tires have a speed rating W (=168mph/270kph)

So, yes, they should easily handle 120+mph.

DO NOT DO THIS WITH A V6.

The V6 has been limited to 113 mph; they've upped that to 121, I think? But people who removed the governor on 2011-2014 V6's found out really quickly why it was there in the first place -- somewhere between 125 mph and 135 mph, the one-piece drive shaft would explode.
