Tire Inflation Kit Question

Got a cut tire once in my 350, tried the goo and it was worthless. I bought the GT350 kit from Modern spare tire. Tire, wheel, jack and wrench included. And a spacer so it can go on the front or rear tire. The tire was a Pirelli. I would not drive any distance in a 350 without something.

Yes. I have family that live in the Lexington NC area so during a visit one day I drove over to Apex and picked up the kit.

BB500 mentioned FB towing , and yes you need extensions to make it up onto the bed without damaging the front end ,specifically the front splitter and more . I cut 2"x6" to fit into the trunk just in case . Scrap piece's I found at a construction site in the pile of scrap.

Thanks. for all of the replies! THere are so many scenarios that can happen and how do you prepare for all of them? I guess I can load up with a lot of equipment and be prepared for as much as possible. I am thinking about this more for long road trips. I've done a few down to TN and had good luck with no tire issues, but what about the next time?
I am also planning a cross country trip along route 66 so that in my mind would warrant a good spare tire which covers most of the situations that could happen. I am not overly mechanical so I don't think a tire repair kit, plugs would be wise. I am also skeptical of these slime kits as a suitable stop gap depending upon how far I would need to travel to a repair shop and at what speed. I'm leaning toward the spare tire kit along with a portable air compressor if it's a slow leak situation.
I will most likely need a breaker bar along as I tried to replace a tire on my Mazda CX5 a year ago and couldn't get the lug nuts unfrozen. I finally was able to get all 140lbs of me hopping on the lug nut bar, but that is a very sketchy situation. With the shelby lugs at 150 ft lbs I would think you would have to have a breaker bar...

My car came with the spare tire which I'm grateful for. I also carry a Fantec compressor. It's tiny but does the job. I've had to use it twice. I also bought a breaker bar and deep socket from Harbor Freight that fits under the spare tire. I also bought a piece of iron pipe that fits over the breaker bar handle and effectively doubles its length. Thats more than enough to break free and tighten a 150 ft lb lug nut. I'll worry about proper torque later.The factory scissor jack is surprisingly good especially on solid, level ground.

If you can change a flat tire, you can plug a tire.

But yea, long road trip, a spare tire would be nice.

I just joy ride and bar hop with my car.

Tire shops hate the slime and it's only really effective on smaller puncturs.
Also, if you plug a tire you need to either plan to leave the plug in forever or buy a new tire. Tire shops are getting to where the refuse to remove a plug and put a proper patch in.

Just an FYI for the Brembo Brake spare tire crowd, T155/70R19 is the largest spare tire diameter that nests in the trunk well and that's with partial inflation. (Matches 265/40R19 base tires.) Hyundai/Genesis OEM spare tires clear Brembo brakes, come in various tire diameters, and are easily adapted to Mustang hubs by enlarging the pilot bore and using m14 x 1.5 shouldered lug nuts as a DIY alternative to the aftermarket options.

Hi Lorne, that is all very good advice. IMHO a full size spare is the best way to go. Just make sure it is in good condition and properly aired up. A jack and the appropriate tools also.
I got a full size spare off Craigslist that was never used for a good deal from a guy who sold his Mustang. A small compressor is also a good idea.
One other thing to consider; if your car has the faux chrome lugnuts, get rid of them and replace with REAL chrome lugnuts. You can get a good quality set for a reasonable price from American Muscle. Otherwise you may be very sorry to have to deal with these, whoever thought having these on a car, any car for that matter, needs to be sent back to school.

Thanks John S. for mentioning the Brembo brake issue, that's exactly what mine are and I made sure the spare wheel is made for that application!

You never need a spare until you do. I had a sidewall cut from a piece of metal falling off a pickup on an interstate at rush hour. Estimated time for AAA was 2 hours or more. I pulled out the spare I had bought, changed the flat on the side of the road, and was moving again less than 30 minutes later.

AAA is a good service but it can be slooooow. We still keep it on the wife's car and pay for the daughter's subscription on her birthday. That way I know, even if they have to wait, they'll get help if I'm not with them or nearby.
