Because it'll never fail at stock power levels?
im guessing the OEM one is not forged and heat treated, plenty of
timing chains I know of out there never break even with 1500+ HP...

gonna call my buddy at Cloyes today and do some research no way im spending 300 on a sproket
but I def want the upgrade

Let me know what you've find....thought about sourcing to a local CNC shop.

What would a shop charge to change both opg and crank sprocket? Is timing and crank sprocket same? What comes on the aluminator engines? I guess I'll spend 2000 dollars to install these? This stinks about these parts. I guess u might as well do the shortblock if your going to change the gears

I've heard 8-12 hours to swap them. It's said that if you're doing OPG, might as well do timing sprocket.

The CAD time, type of material, and machines involved all cost a lot of money. 300 bucks is not that expensive for what you're getting. And, considering what's at stake if the gear fails, it's cheap insurance.

we started talking to cloyes 3 years ago about the sprockets and chains, me, jpc, etc..

no interest.

there is a company that recognized the issue, designed a product to correct it, and is available now. how cheap is it going to get for a cnc'd piece of billet, another $20 or $30....

$300 for a low volume CNC'ed billet steel part? I think that's reasonable. When I got mine swapped, it was the same installation cost whether I did just the OPG or the timing sprocket too. Might as well spend the $300 to get the sprocket installed. Granted, I'm shooting for bigger power these days...

There is a very nasty but interesting thread going on over at svtperf right now uner the 11-14 section. A guys Livernois built motor just broke the lower timing gear and messed a bunch of stuff up. The OP is stating that lots of stuff was wrong or off with his build from the start.

Anyways what's interesting is a Livernois rep, I believe Jamie, has come in to defend Livernois and the build. The parts of his posts that stuck out to me is he said Livernois uses a stock timing gear on all their builds regardless of power output. They stay away from the billet gear and he said they see more failed billet gears come through their door then stock gears. He basically hinted towards the billet gears not being made right or just being a low quality part.

Also he said specifically that when they look at a stock gear that has failed they can see it is always caused by detonation. He said detonation rattles the gear causing them to shatter. He said they have a staggering amount of high HP coyotes running around with the stock timing gear that doesn't fail.

Anyway, if you want to read more go over there and in the 11-14 talk section look for the post: Blew up my motor started by Don's Bolt. Go to page 2 to read Livernois first reply and addressing the timing gear.

I saw the write up it looks doable just need to know if all the bolts can be reused or are tty?
The only TTY bolt is the Crank pulley bolt.
