I know there have been posts but I’m trying to get a definite answer before proceeding tomorrow. I have a 2017 GT and it’s clicking upon starting to accelerate, it’s done it for a while so I’m going to replace it.

I wanted to do it tomorrow on my day off, but just remove the washer entirely and not replace it. Is that smart? Do I need one? Are they readily available at the dealership I could just pick it up tomorrow? Whatcha think?

Well I can't tell you what to do. But I tossed those POS and never looked back.
Advice: Torque to spec and use red Loctite on the axlenut.

If I can avoid doing this job all over again for the 4th time, that would be great.. lol

That's up to you.

What I did was reused. Not because I'm cheap, but I think it's because FORD wants to sell you unnecessary parts. I witness marked it. Hasn't moved in a 1000 miles and that's with very spirited driving including hard launches.

Word. I do ask though, what’s the purpose of the washer? It’s done more harm than good at this point lol, replacing it every like 10k miles is really annoying.

a
Curious why it’s 50/50 as to why some say to absolutely use and some people don’t.

Ford says to keep the axlenut from backing off. BS I say.

Maybe the drive like little old ladies ?
GT350 / GT500 / MACH 1 AFAIK do not use them.
Why would the washer do that though? On the opposite side of the hub? I might just do it tomorrow and delete it!

Correct, and no idea, as other models don't use it.
Shit don’t make no sense 😂 I guess it’s definitely worth a shot without it. I’m only doing the driver side though. The passenger side one I believe is still in tact

I think Ford may have deleted the washer with the 2018+ cars. Not sure though.

I don't run them on my 2019 GT PP1 car. After my last track weekend I noticed the left rear hub had a lot of play. The witness marks on the hub/nut were no longer aligned, so I tightened the nut as hard as I could using my jack handle over my 25" breaker bar.

I know it's a bit of a hassle to get to this washer. Same as replacing the hub. If it was me, I'd only do the job upon hub exchange. But again, I track my car. Maybe you don't. Perhaps you can buy a new H352 hub from your dealer with the understanding that you can return it if not installed. Then you will have the option of replacing the hub. I needed new rear hubs by 25k miles.

Damn. I went and paid 27 dollars at the dealer today for the part so I’m just going to do it anyways… the other side has one and I don’t want that to create any problems

I'm currently doing a bunch of rear end stuff on my 21 pp1 and there was no thrust washers from the factory.
