OP, did you ask for a Premium V6 by chance? Ask for something with Navigation? Did you request leather seats?
I'd go out on a limb and say it's likely much higher than you think, if you think they'd be jealous of a buyer's financial decision.
A half way decent car salesman will make more money than a lot of Software Engineers.

I'd like to ask you what you assume the financial position is of the sales person?Sometimes I think a salesperson can get somewhat jealous of a buyiers financial position and will try to put limits on one . It's been my experience that most sales persons haven't been at the dealership long term or even selling cars.
I know there's not a love for the v6 but for someone looking at the convertible without plans to mod it and doesn't want the V8 its a great package. It's also suited for a long term owner the engine will probably go over 200,000 miles
