sort of like when I wanted to order my car and they said "Why the heck would you want the GT Performance Package on a Convertible? Just order a fastback"

How about you not question what I want to order and just order it.
Was it one of those condescending asses that thinks the girl doesn't know what she wants.

that combined with his followup statement of "it's not like you'll be able to use all that power anywhere here and you can't take a convertible on a track"

I almost walked out at that moment, but it's a simple fact of I knew what I wanted. I might not track it but a few times until i get kicked out at the track for not having a cage, but this is what I wanted.

I wanted a fast car. Rear wheel drive v8, manual transmission, and big brakes, performance suspension, etc.

I wanted a convertible.

Years ago I loved my New Beetle Convertible. I also loved my GTO. I always wished I had both all in one because the Beetle wasn't engaging to drive, but was great for the convertible. The GTO was amazing to drive, all that raucous power, but no sunroof, no vert, etc so it was always missing something my Beetle gave me.

Since then I've decided I can deal with track limitations because I don't buy a car to go to the dragstrip. I will want to go, but I'll run it a few times and that's it anyway.

So this is me, this is my path. My convertible Mustang isn't any less of a car than a GT Performance pack. It might be slightly slower at the track whether it's a quarter mile or a honest to god race track, but I am willing to bet that with a few modest upgrades my convertible would hang right in and beat a lesser driver in a fastback anyway.

I know the limitations of a convertible. I've accepted them. I've also accepted the positive points. All I know is that all summer long I've got all the vitamin D I want, and I drop the top nearly every single day that it's above 55 degrees.

I had this exact problem. Nobody within 1000 miles had a base GT. Local dealer offered to order me one, but tried to be slick and make me pay 6% for 8 years! A couple other dealers wanted me to buy off the lot which I would've considered, but nobody within 1000 miles had a blue GT. Two dealers refused - flat out refused to do a factory order for me.

Funny, I thought only Dodge/Chrysler pulled this sort of B.S. :tsk:

The dealer I'm going with approved my credit over the phone, ordered my car (Base GT, 6 speed, Blue) without hesitation. He obviously wanted my business so he gets the money. I just have to travel 7 hours to get my car!
When I went to order my 2010 Challenger R/T, and went to my two local dealers, one wouldn't order a base car, just wouldn't do it. The other said "sure!" and then handed me the price of $31,585+$550 "Special Order Fee" and "Regional Availability Adjustment" of $7,500...for a "Absolute" OTD price of...$39,585. I said "Nope" and walked out.

Called another dealer about two hours away that was primarily a truck and SUV dealer.

"Lithia Dodge of Klamath Falls this is Cameron how can I help you?"

"Do you have 2010 Challenger allocations?"

"One second.....yeah..we do"

"Will you do a MSRP only deal on a base R/T automatic?"

"...yeah my sales manager says yes"

"I'll be there tomorrow"

I ordered on 09/11/2009 and had my car on 10/21/2009. I took it to the local dealership for it's first oil change and such and the salesman that tried to pull the "special fees" and how "I wouldn't get the car I wanted anywhere else" just glared at me.

Life was good!

I learned all about a convertible when I had a 1986 dodge 600. We went to Mid-Ohio to watch races. Had the top down all day. I got so damned sunburned it was unbelievable. I was sick for two days and my skin was a nice light shade of purple.

Honestly from someone who has owned the 3.7 it does suck. I mean its a great V6, but its still a V6 and the upgrade potential sucks. With the EB you can get some pretty sick numbers with an upgraded turbo and parts.

Or just get a GT if you can afford it.
You can supercharge the V6 if you want. Procharger makes a kit. 50-60% increase in HP and a significant boost in torque. It gets you into the same power and torque arena as the coyote at a slight price penalty than if you'd just gotten the GT to begin with.

https://www.procharger.com/automotive-superchargers/ford/mustang-v6/2015-mustang-v6-37

If you like your car otherwise and don't want the hassle of selling it and buying a V8, this could be a viable alternative.

Best,

Sometimes I think a salesperson can get somewhat jealous of a buyiers financial position and will try to put limits on one . It's been my experience that most sales persons haven't been at the dealership long term or even selling cars.

I know there's not a love for the v6 but for someone looking at the convertible without plans to mod it and doesn't want the V8 its a great package. It's also suited for a long term owner the engine will probably go over 200,000 miles

Some big city car dealers also take the attitude of "the base models are for buyers with dented credit" ;)

The V6 is a good engine for the money. Test drive that and the Eco and make your choice, who cares what the salesman or anyone else says? It's your money.

Also weren't you the guy who just bought a Fiesta ST and is trading in? If you like turbo motors you'll probably like the eco more.

i can't remember exactly, but between 2006-2010, I was playing around with the thought of custom ordering a Mustang. I went through my local dealer to talk about the possibility. I wanted the glass roof option. The dealer I was talking to said, "No way. Real car guys get solid metal roofs. I don't know any car guys that would want that option.". I bought my latest car from that dealership, but I do not see that guy working there anymore. I dislike it too when sales people offer bad advice, or presume to be an expert. They do not know who they are talking to.

My dream job would be to sell cars. Ford if I could. I would love to talk cars all day.

I had a V6 mustang and I thought it was a very fun car. Find a sales person who you like, or just ignore them. Typically the sales people don't know much about cars anyway. They just can't find a better job.

For every Mustang you'd be selling, you're probably selling 9 other significantly more boring vehicles: C-Max, Fiesta, Fusion, F-150, Focus, Transit... just keep that in mind ;) Oh, and the dealer's used car lot, too...:)

I've never had that experience specifically, but I went with my parents when my mom bought her Lexus IS350 F-Sport. There are two salesmen, a young one and an old one that worked in tandem. The old one does all of the negotiation. The young one is basically a gopher - go and get the cars, etc.

The young one first told my mom she wanted the ES series. Had her test drive it, so we did. It was a land yacht, she hated it. After that he told her "all she needed was the IS250.." That didn't go over well. Then she didn't need the F-Sport. We ended up dumping the young sales guy and found someone to let her test drive what she wanted.

She ended up buying it, but the young guy was originally dead set against letting a 71 year old woman buy the car she wanted. It's her money, let her do what she wants!

I went to the dealer to trade in my fiesta st wanted to test drive the v6 and the sales person literally told me why a v6 they suck get the ecoboost. I like both all I wanted was a test drive. Sucks when the sales person wants you to buy a certain car..
If it makes you feel any better, my friend who is a young engineer doing very well for himself.. was straight up told he couldn't even test drive any mustang because ''he couldnt afford it'' this is with the salesman not knowing anything about it besides that he is young. I find car salesmen to be the biggest douche bags, and if you could get cars without having to deal with them it would be so much better.
