No worries, mate.
Oh come on!! The fight was just getting started. You can't quit now! He said 'your mother smelt of elderberries and your father took up with a hamster". You gonna let him get away with that?

I want to be entertained, damn it!

Depends on how much longer I want to work . I can retire at anytime. My problem is I am a work-o-holic. So most likely no time soon.
I am to a certain degree but I also want to still be fairly young when I retire. LOL

Op any update on what the actual issue was with the trans?
Nothing official, but I suspect input shaft bearing. It drives fine, it’s just noise at idle in neutral and if you lug 2nd-4th gear at low RPM it sounds bad.

Just put over 2k mi on it during a road trip and it was fine. Maybe it won’t actually fail catastrophically, or maybe it will. If the latter, I’d rather not pay out of pocket.

Great, then why you here?
Go buy a camry can call it a day.
Honestly, my next car will be another Corolla. I always thought I would buy a Ford Truck but that's not happening anymore. Probably buy a Silverado when I decide I need a truck. It may be a POS too but my Mustang is the last Ford for me. Ford mechanics do no diagnostics, they just replace parts. And they can't do that very well either.

What do you call the worst student of a medical school who graduated? "Doctor"

dealer techs should be regarded in similar fashion, likely to be at the bottom of their class, but managed to pass the criteria, whatever that might be. Trouble shooting is a knack. Very few people have it. It can rarely be taught.

Dealer service writer pressures and unwillingness to let their good techs have their head I'm sure extinguishes even the most earnest new hire. American society in particular has of late cultivated a deep seated disdain for people who get their finger nails dirty which tends to reinforce the treatment of techs as unthinking automatons who just need to be forced into a script no more useful than a call center.

The end result was perfectly predictable.
