100 degrees low humidity, no wind, Thunderhill 5-30

Cylinder Head Temps seemed to hover around 225/230

The gauge does not have green/yellow/red zones - so not sure if this is good or bad... In any case I had no obvious overheating issues from coolant.

The oil crept up to the very edge of the green and took a long time (1 hr and easy highway driving) to return to center green.

The Differential overheated badly.

I am worried about heat coming from underneath the car. Possibly damaged driveshaft?

Yeah, I saw that. The pump I got is $71 delivered, so if it survives the heat of pumping hot oil it might be a cheaper alternative.

Need to see how it lasts, the pump I got is actually designed for pumping oil in marine applications, might not work well when hot

I feel like that would add a significant amount of weight. What about selective use of Jet Hot coating and or simple metallic cradle exhaust shields?
That sounds awesome, especially since I havent heard of either of them before..! So it sounds like a lot of work and probably expensive!??

http://www.jet-hot.com/ It can be. But you can do portions and save a good amount. Heat shields can be relatively cheap. You can probably find some on another car, and make your on stand offs for them.

Very nice, will keep these ideas noted.. I appreciate the suggestions very much so dont get me wrong... your ideas and direction may be the ideal solution long term... Nevertheless I'm going to wrap wrap wrap, at least for the short term- to see how things are with the approach.

I'm weight adverse on the car, but as of now I am more heat adverse than weight adverse. :)

Worst case I am (slowly I hope?) damaging piping, portions of which I might someday replace if I can justify a tow rig :) (Headers ) ...while helping spare wear on pretty much the rest of the entire car, nearest & dearest components to the exhaust system being first in order of benefit and there seem to be many.

2 rolls of exhaust wrap looks to weigh 5 lbs... worst case 10 lbs - Worth it for a quick band-aid this summer! :D :headbonk: :headbang:

Interesting...I think wrapping the headers down to the first bend or at the most to the resonator point might help a bunch... think I might try this also. I had 2 headers on my '04 SVTFocus, one wrapped for summer driving, and one unwrapped for winter time. Worked out pretty good because changing the header was a 30min job....

Thank you for the supportive post; I have also noticed quite a bit of heat underneath the car e.g. console/shifter, something that apparently is not unusual after an aftermarket exhaust upgrade. The stock hotbox probably does a good job of being a heatsink.

Per suggestion from MagnaFlow, I will make sure to wrap the exhaust pipes closest to the differential if not the entire / most of the exhaust down to that point.

Note to new exhaust purchasers - this might be worth doing before the install!

Just for reference, high pressure piping in aircraft systems is heat wrapped by fiberglass, so it cant be a bad idea in cars...

The stock hood blinker/vents look like a fantastic part for aftermarket replacement - larger ventage along the entire length of the part might work wonders in tandem with higher flow grill, no?

Pic to come

Yep, that's my stage 1 plan for high underhood temps - grill delete and these extractors installed without the backing plates.
