UPDATE:

The new dealer sounds pretty confident that they fixed it. Basically they got tools into the rear package tray area and beat metal into place until the noise stopped. Everyone heard the noise and all those people say the noise is gone now.... so maybe they saved her :)

im waiting to hear back if they will make good on replacing the steering wheel the other randall reed dealer messed up (largely because I'm not holding them to the fire on fixin the body work stuff they screwed up because I can probably fix that myself and frankly i don't trust anyone at this point).

anyhow, maybe the saga of the bad noise is coming to an end and maybe... just maybe... randall reed planet ford 45 can save me as a customer by replacing the steering wheel the other store tore up.

There was a TSB for this one of my old cars and it was similar to that, near the rear deck/package shelf. Body parts rubbing together. Fix was use a screwdriver, pry the seam apart very slightly and spray lithium grease. It sounded very similar to what you have. Hope it’s actually fixed because little things like that can really dampen your spirits

FINAL UPDATE (I HOPE!):

they fixed it. basically they did noninvasive surgery and beat all the spot welded metal in that corner of the rear package tray area into place until it quit making the creaking noise.

seems legit, car is quieter than ever. driving home it was an actual pleasure.

I'm happy as all heck now. still a little skiddish but it seems like they actually found and fixed it.
