Brief backstory ... I wound up buying my Shelby out of state because it was the only option I had at the time in terms of getting exactly what I wanted at a price I was willing to pay. Knowing I was going to be trading in my truck for the car, I figured I would just pay to ship both ways (trade vehicle out, Shelby back).
Fast forward to today ...
After much internal debate and back-and-forth with myself, I have decided to drive my truck out and drive the car back. Three reasons ... First, I would like to be there for delivery and to inspect everything myself, second, I have read enough horror stories about damage or issues during shipping that it has me a bit spooked, and, finally, what better way to experience the new car than driving it home on the interstate for 8 hours.
One of the first appointments I have made is for the car to get wrapped and coated, but, obviously, this is going to happen after 550+ miles of interstate driving. My detailer suggested that I use some painters tape (poor man's option) to cover up the areas prone to rock damage / road debris, or look into getting some of the Xpel temporary wrap (or something similar). He said it was going to look goofy either way, but a small price to pay for minimizing any paint chips or damage before getting wrapped.
For those that were in the same situation (or those that take preventive measures on your track days), which would you recommend?
Furthermore, are there any non-obvious areas I want to make sure to protect?
Thanks for your suggestions.
