Fact or speculation? If fact, show us a link where this is documented please.
Watch the GMA reveal and Alan Mulally says they are sequential right after he points out the new light design.

Those taillights are gonna be a nightmare to clean, it looks like a terrible place to get wax on/off towards the bottom + dirt will accumulate in the tight spaces--><--Wonder if those Brush car washes (I never use them) would get strands caught in the crevices or using a California Duster.

 Have you looked at the C7 taillights ? At least Ford kept the faith !

So to me it almost looks like the outside of the light is completely smooth. Those "steps," or "can ridges" look to be cut on the inside. Shouldn't be too hard to clean. I will reserve judgment until I touch the car though....
Outside will be smooth w/o question. The steps will be molded into the inner part of the lens. Helps the light transmission, somewhat like a translucent plastic rod

Thanks Red. I watched it live, but don't remember that.

From the preview guide:

HID headlamps with signature lighting
• Three-dimensional tri-bar taillamps with
sequential turn signals
• LED fog lamps
• 17- to 20-inch aluminum wheels
• Wider body and lower roof height
• More steeply sloped windshield and rear glass
• Unified side glass

And the taillights are my favorite part of the S550. Great modern take on the '67 tails. Hard to clean but great looking. Isn't that often the case?

Did anyone else think it was weird how they never showed the sequential tails on video?

I know nobody asked, I figure it was implied. Guessing on the timing.
