i used the USB drive, plugged it in went on a nice ride it took about 45 min

Prerequisites
Vehicle can still be driven but some SYNC functions will remain unavailable until update
completed.
☐ SYNC Software Version is 3.4 or higher. You can visit www.owner.Ford.com or www.owner.Lincoln.com to download the latest software or visit you dealer
☐ A USB Map Drive with loaded licenses specific to this vehicle.
☐ Vehicle is in a well ventilated area.
☐ Vehicle fuel level is adequate to run for over an hour.
☐ Ensure vehicle is running.

Map Software Update Install Procedure

1.
Insert the USB Drive with loaded licenses specific to the vehicle into the vehicle’s USB port. Follow SYNC screen prompts.

Note: If this software update is interrupted during the installation process the update will need to be restarted from the beginning. Some functions will remain unavailable until update is completed.

2. USB Drive is inserted into the vehicles USB connector.

3. System update validates and starts loading.

4. Screen notes changes that will be performed, duration of time and features that will not be available during the update process.

5. Last opportunity to exit Map Update before installation.

6. SYNC software update will continue for approximately the next 60 minutes.

7. SYNC update is complete and an ignition key cycle is required before the updates will take effect. Remove the USB Drive and perform an ignition key cycle.

Ignition key cycle
• Engine Off / Stop
• Wait 15 seconds
• Engine Run / Start

I get in the car with my fob and push the start button and then insert the USB stick into the receptacle. Then after a little while, the power shuts down. This is with the charger plugged in.
@Snoopy49 If memory serves me right pressing the button once is "ACC" mode, run mode you have to press the start again.

Yes there is an option for download, I see no reason to pay $40 for a $6.99 usb stick.

If memory serves me right pressing the button once is "ACC" mode, run mode you have to press the start again.
Push the start button once and it is in accessory mode, push it again and it turns off.

Hold down the brake pedal and push the start button once and the car is in run/start mode and it starts up.

There may not be if W.O.T. already used his free download. I believe you only get one free.
I believe this is the case. I remember using this before - but never could get it to update properly. I guess you only get the first one for free.

My car was produced on Feb 28, 2020 and the Map version is NA 1 18 and the SYNC Software Version is 3.4 (I updated this after I received the car).

Just went out and checked and the pitfalls of owning multiple cars and being old is you skew them all and forget what does what. You are correct. And its funny my Maps version was 1.18 so mine is going to be upped to 1.19.

It was so much easier to do things before the cars got smarter than us. :frown:
