Miss read the weather, thought the low was going to be 36, guess the “feels like” is supposed to be 18-20 degrees. I left the house for work tonight still on my summer tires, 555r2 rear, ps4s front. Nitto says 15 degrees but worried about the michilens, they say don’t drive below 40. Are they going to be toast?

Feels like means nothing except to us.

40 degrees with a feels like temp of 10 will read 40 degrees if you use a temp probe on the tire.

Didn’t know that about the feels like, thank you. I knew the performance suffered, I’m just commuting, not getting stupid but I was afraid of damaging the tire. They have a huge detailed thing on the website about if they’re exposed to freezing temps do not roll the car or mount/dismount until they’ve sat at like 60 degrees for 24 hours.

What temperature would it take to ruin a set of ps4s tires?

My previous set of PS4S were driven at temps in the upper 30’s and 40’s because I was working at the time and the car was my commuter at that time. Tires developed cracking around the shoulder and very slight cracking on the sidewalls. Fortunately they were near the end of their life. Performance definitely suffered.

If you are concerned about safety and performance it is simple. Don’t drive the car when temps are 40 and below. Allow sufficient time for them to warm up after exposure to low temps. The instructions have been provided by the manufactuer on all of this.

if this does not work for you, buy all season tires or have a second set of wheels and tires to change out seasonally.

I've driven on MPS 4Ss for years and years, in temps down to 0. Not the slightest bit of an issue.

Michelin Summer Tires turn plasticy at 45*F and below, causing them to break, throw chunks, separate and become unusable.

Michelin says they are OK above 40*F if you drive them without flexing the tire. Hard driving hard corners.

Buy some winter Tires.

That's complete horseshit. 100% untrue.

I drove to work in 35 degree weather this morning. Have daily driven on MPSO tires for over a decade now.

Like a few have mentioned, don't drive it like you're at a track or auto cross event. Just drive it easy and don't put any stress on the tires that you don't have to. The first year I had my Mach I drove to work a few times in low 30's high 20's temps and that was when the Cup 2's were still on the car. No issues with the tires outside of the bad alignment that caused the inside cords to be poking before I hit 5000 miles but other than that, drove just fine.

I found enough examples of my pilot super sports and others developing issues, cracks, when driven in temps down toward and below the 30s and 20s so I put all season Toyos on until Spring. If for nothing else than peace of mind. Tires won't go to waste, planning to sell when I remove them in the Spring, but would be absolutely disgusted if the Michelins degraded because I drove them in the cold/too cold.

Yeah but you're oblivious to all sorts of things.... 😄😄

Drive it down the street a couple blocks at 35 mph and then slam the brakes and see if you like the outcome. It doesn't matter what the tires do when just rolling straight and level. It's why you see suv upside down in the ditch at the slightest snow.

I've driven the 555G2 in the mid 30s and they were really greasy. Even more than normal lol. I have no experiences with Michelin summer only all seasons. Mine is in hibernation as of last weekend for that reason since I sold my all season set about a month ago. I would try and pick the warmest time of the day possible and get it home pronto. Just my $0.02

You could be ruining the tires today. They develop micro cracks when used in cold temps, could split/get worse in the future, probably hard to know or say.

I had MPS4S's on my Chevy SS in North Carolina and drove it every day throughout winter. Ended up selling the car next summer, but never noticed any damage. Today, my 350 sits outside and it has gotten down to ~20*. I don't drive it at those temps, but ~40 I have noticed no problems for gentle driving.
