That's an assumption that's true if you interact with the child and/or family inappropriately.
No, that's a false statement. Many parents would have a fit if you guided their child politely and were 100% right. That's the way it is these days...and some of it is for good reason. The world is so messed up, I really don't feel comfortable with any grown man walking up to my 9 year old daughter. That said, she has been raised pretty well, and I don't think she would do something like this. However, if she did...I would expect that to be brought to my attention. I will handle my child...not because you are wrong in having an issue with it, but because I don't know you from Jared (subway).

I grew up knowing two kinds of kids. The we have nothing so I don't care about other's property crowd.
Also the my family's rich and my daddy's a lawyer so screw you, I'll break what I want crowd. Kids who rebelled against their silver spoon upbringing.

I watched my parents work extremely hard for what they had. They worked 7 days a week to keep the family business running. I learned the value of a dollar.

And I was proud that from a young age, people would remark how I ensured my shoes were clean before getting in their car, not closing the door from the glass, or leaving any marks whenever possible.
I respected the hell out of cars.
I found the people who didn't either never owned anything nice in their life, or saw money as something so easy and free-flowing they don't give a shit about other's things.

Maybe this is just a guess based on life experience, but I bet the kids who played on your car watched their mother just treat things like shit. Not have anything nice, not try to keep anything in good condition, or just trash it and buy another one.

That's what I'm saying. You can't just walk away from something happening. Sometimes your only recourse is to speak with the child because there are no parents around. If you know where the kid lives and/or can see the parents, then deal with the adults. I'm not condoning the doling out of consequences, but there is nothing wrong with telling a kid to stop what he's doing. If a parent is paranoid about adults interacting with their children, they shouldn't leave their children unsupervised.

Hope it works out man. It's a shame, I see a lot of poorly behaved children even when I go out shopping or out to eat. People letting their kids run amok in the store, restaurant etc. and making a mess. I can't say I'm surprised about something like this too, unfortunately I dont know what you can do. Report vandalism to the police? I seriously doubt people who have kids behave like that are reasonable adults and would reimburse you for any damages. People are more likely to call the cops on you for confronting them on their child's behavior rather than act like civilized adults and reach some sort of settlement. What a can of worms, best of luck.

My neighborhood kids treat my car as a goal post for their soccer games. There are two grass fields within 100 feet of where I park my car, but apparently playing in the street and damaging other people's property is the fun thing to do. I've verbally reprimanded them once(politely), I'm afraid to think of what I would do if they seriously damaged my car.
Sounds like it is just a matter of time.

You might want to be more proactive, somehow.

My wife had 2 nasty scratches on her car which clearly look like they were caused by little kid fingers running along the body while the car was dirty. I also caught a kid doing that to my last car when I was leaving the rec center - it also left a scratch. Little bastards.

I'm so glad we just moved into a house with a garage. I hate other people's kids and their shitty parenting.

Definitely sucks to have kids walking on your car.

At the same time, ironic that it was witnessed on someone else's car, but ignored. Reminds me of that scene in one of the Spider Man movies where Peter Parker sees a guy steal some money from the fight club, lets him go, but then later that guy kills his uncle.

I agree with what MagneticA was saying, about getting involved in your neighborhood, but in a respectful manner.

I like in a relatively close knit neighborhood, and would definitely expect a neighbor to politely remind my own kids that their behavior was inappropriate. Of course I try to instill in them a sense of responsibility, value, and respect, but at the same time they are kids, and don't think through their actions, and therefore need constant reminders about what is appropriate, but also need to be able to explore and learn things on their own. It's a tough balancing act.

Sucks for this to have happened, and hopefully it can be made right. Best of luck to the OP.

Hey dude, sorry you have to go through this torture. I'd be pretty pissed.

No a side note- can you post a pic of your wheels? Perhaps a side shot?

Instead of kids, how do you deal with neighbor's pets? I have my neighbor's cat that roams the neighborhood, got into my garage and jump all over on my new car. Saw that feline and it's paw prints all over. I was mad at the neighbor but can't do crap since they a more trailer trash then anything.
