Came across a super good deal on a TR6060, trying to decide whether or not to make the swap happen on my 2016 Performance Pack GT or consider a Calimer Stage 3 MT82. (Called calimer today and recommended stage 3, 26 spline for my setup and power goals)

I don’t know too much about the 6060 but know a lot of guys go that route instead, whether that’s due to the bad rep of the MT82 or the tremec just being a far superior transmission I’m not sure.

My car is awaiting it’s ProCharger that should be in next week, shooting for 650whp from the P1X. Would I have to look into getting the TR6060 built to hold the power?

I looked into the price difference of the two different directions I could go and with the deal on the transmission the TR6060 swap would be considerably less (local pickup, no shipping cost or wait time as well) also factoring in the cost of the clutch getting sent back to McLeod to get 26 spline disks in both scenarios. (McLeod RXT)

Also, if anyone has any idea what gearing I should run with the 6060 with the centrifugal setup please inform me! It is mainly a street car and may see a track day or two each year.

Any input would be helpful much appreciated!

mt82 holds 650whp from a p1x zero issues. Been running a p1x on my mt82 car at 730ish with a mcleod rst and everything holds

How do you use your car (street, strip or auto cross)? Is the RST the ticket to eliminating high rpm lockouts?

TR6060 is plenty for that power level. Hell, my BOSS with 770 RWHP had stock clutch and stock MT82 for over 20k miles without any issues. I never ran slicks or drop clutched the car though.

Thanks for that, I’ll probably scoop up the TR6060 in anticipation of blowing the stock mt82. If I had it sit around and never touch it I wouldn’t be too upset.

I’ve beat on the mt82 all of my ownership (~25k miles). I’ve heard mixed feelings about it in general. Some say the RXT will destroy it at any moment, some run it and trans lives a happy life.

Ended up snapping an axle this morning after finally doing a somewhat hard 2-3 shift after breaking in the clutch at ~480whp. I’m in the “better be safe than sorry” mood since then lol.

Stock mt82?? Stock fluid??

Also just curious how much boost you’re running. When I spoke to Lund, they suggested shooting for 10psi on 93 to be approx. 650whp.

RXT will break an OEM MT-82; way too much shock for the gears. You can confirm w/ Ben Calimer.

Picking up the TR6060 next week and will accumulate the parts needed for the swap over time. Should be able to handle all the power shifts I throw at it.

Update, got the trans. But not the trans I expected it to be. Ended up being a brand new TR3160, not the brand new TR6060 as I was told. Definitely surprise, still trying to figure out if it’s a pleasant surprise or not. I know the 3160 out of the GT350 is a great transmission, just not sure if its a better fit for my application over the 6060. Running a P1X on 10lbs of boost haven’t got it on a dyno but estimated ~650whp on 93.

As far as the swap goes, not too sure what the cost difference is going to be. For the 6060 it seemed pretty straight forward. Send out my McLeod RXT to get 26 spline disks, driveshaft, transmission brace, and a few sensors.

From what I’ve found on other posts I’ve heard you need a GT350 clutch/flywheel due to the input shaft not reaching the crank so the pilot bearing is in the flywheel (my RXT would not be able to be used) also need a GT350 driveshaft not sure if the differential end of the driveshaft would bolt up the same or a new diff flange would be required.

Other posts about this swap were before the Mach 1 was released with the 3160 and curious to see if anyone has learned any new information on this swap since the release of the Mach.

Thanks for any input.

Yes, you need a GT350 flywheel and driveshaft. The differential pinion flange needs to be a small flange to match up to the GT350 driveshaft.

3160 is 81 mm shaft centers with a top rating of 429 lb*ft, 6060 is 85 mm with a top rating of 650 lb*ft. For a FI setup a 3160 is not the best choice. Fwiw MT-82 is 82 mm.
