Nice pic! As it shows, it provides a pressure crossover but doesn't actually efficiently mix the gas from each bank. It's also what makes the exhaust sound a bit choked up/farty up at high rpm. H or X, either are a nice improvement in tone. This big thing is great for controlling volume, though.

Out of curiosity has anyone done a cutaway of an active exhaust muffler? Curious what it looks like inside and how it works with the valve.

I’m not sure a cutaway would show much. The valve is on one of the two outlets and works just like a throttle body. A blade opens and closes in the tip to change the amount of exhaust/sound being emitted

Yeah I realize that. Just wondering if when the valve is open does the exhaust basically get a straight shot through the muffler (as in no sound deadening at all)? I have MAK cat deletes going through a Magnaflow Tru-X, then into the stock active mufflers. The car is pretty quiet in quiet mode but it's OBNOXIOUS in any other mode. Cold start in anything other than quiet is just plain ridiculous. I may be taking the plunge and buying a pair of GESi 3" Catalytic converters from Vibrant. They are super expensive so I'm weighing my options. View attachment 356949 View attachment 356949

Yeah, I’m not sure on that. I have Kooks catless w/Magnaflow X & competition cat back (active) and there is no more quiet mode!! Lol

Here’s what the inside of a stock resonator looks like minus all the fiberglass packing.

I seriously looked a few days ago for a while for this and couldn't find one. Thank you!

Thanks for this!

So the only connection between the two banks are perforations of the pipes in the small last chamber?

There are holes in the partition walls too.

Was the entire chamber filled with fiberglass? How much does that weigh?

Super cool. Even more reason to put a proper H or X on these cars. That’s a BS “crossover” method.

It isn't really a crossover. Its a big cherry bomb muffler that happens to work on both sides. It was done for space saving. It would be a tight fit to put separate units on each side with the same expansion volume. An H or X pipe would help even with this thing still in the exhaust.

Yes, all of the chambers were filled with fiberglass. I’m not sure how much it weighs but I was happy to replace it with an X-pipe

Like the wall that separates the two big chamber? Not seen in the top view camera shot? If only Ace took another angle ;)
The chambers are sealed off from each other by the walls. They function independently of each other, just packaged together in one assembly. I wish I still had it to get more pictures. :)
