Alright, some notes:
1. All on-board USB ports work, and line-in works as well. You access them through the SYNC screen, and cycle through them by tapping 'AUX' (not audio--I think this is backwards or labeled incorrectly.) Audio does not pause if you accidentally switch to the 'Media' screen (you do not control SYNC music through the Media section.) Additionally, bluetooth audio works, again through the Sync section. It really seems that you are going to be picking between primarily using the 'Sync' section of the 'Media' section to play back, depending on what you want to use.
2. The iGo navigation section seems to like it best if you set the time zone to 'automatic.' For whatever reason, even if I forced the iGo setting to -6, it would display an incorrect time. But setting it to Auto got it working. I then have my time zone set at the system level (still in 24-hour time.) iGo displays AM/PM and 12-hour when in use.
3. Regarding the SD card, it's actually a MicroSD card (the really tiny kind.) Fortunately, extension cords exist for those too. But it seems that primarily you can (and should) use the system-native USB port, as the play/pause button works with this kind of setup, as well as auto-pickup after car shutdown and restart. It displays album art as well, but the art must be embedded into the track. So I think you might just need to consider relocating the card if you want access for updating maps, although given that 'update map' was an option, it may be possible that it can update them from the other system USB port (not the regular car ports.)
4. Text message read-back did not work when I received a message while sitting in the car. That said, I never had this feature working for me before I switched to this unit, although I had recently found the 'Enable Notifications' bluetooth setting, that finally got the text messaging menu to light up in the Sync screen.
5. Regarding the Sync module, you literally have full access to it through the interface controls, including being able to update the Sync firmware through its own USB ports.
6. The voice command steering wheel button works, but I think you'll be restricted to phone commands as you're not technically playing your audio through the Sync system.
