Do u have to do this when disconnecting the battery for extended periods of time or only when replacing the battery!?
Usually only when replacing a battery. The vehicle learns the battery is failing and changes its behavior to try to help. The vehicle will not know to revert back to normal behavior until it gets reset.

Not saying there is not some other mechanical issue going on, but you have something going on with the battery / charging system already anyway. Always best to start with what you know is wrong, before trying to go deeper. Battery is giving a warning “for some reason” and battery will directly cause that kind of issue, so natural place to start. Good luck!
Definitely understood. I 100% need a new battery and will be looking for one. I have been putting it off, my battery light has been on. But didn't think it could cause other problems like that. I feel like it may be something else going on also

Do you have a decent scan tool or Forscan? Check to see if you have any codes stored in the Power steering module or Cruise control module. U300 specifically.
So looks like I have a c0051:67-68 steering wheel position sensor. It says continously memory dtc and c0063:68-48 yaw rate sensor. Also continuous memory dtc. As well as battery voltage codes

Not sure if this is the same issue but sounds similar to this recall that is out.

Replace the battery, clear the codes, re-check. I believe the steering angle sensor is part of the power steering rack, so the entire thing has to be replaced if this is the issue.

I've found it doesn't matter if you change battery types. So if he goes to an AGM like the Odyssey, the car will automatically reset with the proper battery info.

How crazy. Just went out to try and start the car and bam dead battery. So I'm bout to be getting a new battery but quick question I have alot of aftermarket stuff taking up power. And was looking at the xs power battery probably the 3400. Can I use an agm battery. Will it be okay to swap to this battery or should I look for something else!!

So I went on a road trip and on the way back the steering wheel started acting funny. It's definitely worse at higher speeds but it's does the same thing at lower speeds. Like from straight when I try to turn the wheel right I feel pressure and have to push past it and it almost locks right there. It doesn't do it really to the right when I'm going slow only when going fast. And then when I turn my wheel alot to the left when I try to unturned the wheel it like locks up and I have to push it past it. It's almost scary. Still does it to the left when im going slow as much as fast. And when the car is parked I can freely turn the wheel with nos issues. I did hit some pretty big bumps and potholes, so maybe it could be allignment related or what. Any suggestions greatly appreciated
So this identical problem happened to me but in my old 2012 F150.
It turned out the steering shaft (under the hood) had a couple universal joints as the shaft made its way from the firewall to the steering box.
Either one or both of these joints had a bit of corrosion causing a binding that could be felt. And the binding was always at the same steering wheel angle.
I soaked them in WD40 and the binding was alleviated. It came back after some time, so I did again with a better lubricant.
Don't know if mustang might have the same problem, but worth investigating.

I did see run across this topic while searching. Ya I think I'll check on that. Went and got battery and alt tested and both tested good. Battery is sitting nice at 14.4v so idk whats going on so I'll probably just spray down the steering shaft joints anyways to give it a try

How old is your battery? Search this forum and you won't be able to count on your fingers and toes the number of bad batteries that tested good.

The battery voltage is not 14.4V. That is the alternator output voltage.
Turn the car off, flip the headlights on for 10 to 15 seconds, turn the lights off and THEN measure voltage across the battery and compare it to the following chart. That will give you a decent guess at the battery's true condition.

Looks like I may have found the problem but not sure what causing/ possible fix. I'm trying to find out how to add a video to show u guys. When I jack up the car and get the front tire off the ground I can rock it left and right and I can see the steering shaft shaking. The one that goes from the steering wheel into the rack and pinion.
