Greetings,

I have done several suspension upgrades to my 2022 Mustang GT Prem. A lot of BMR equipment. The last upgrade I want to do are shocks/struts and springs. I have decided to go with the Steeda Pro Action non adjustable shocks/struts and their minimum drop linear springs. I know there are a lot of different opinions on shock/struts and springs, but this is the best choice for me and what I want out of my car.

My question is this; Steeda also offers their Billet Rear Shock Mounts for around $270.00. Are these really necessary? Wouldn't the ones that came with my Mustang GT be sufficient? They are selling that their Billet mounts are stronger and base GT mounts can break. Which I believe, but again are the necessary? I will probably never be taking my Mustang GT to the track or drag strip, and my use would be for carving up some nice twisty roads and mostly daily driving in the Summers.

One last question; It shows that you can get the shocks/struts and springs pre assembled. Is this worth doing?

Please advise.

Happy Holidays!

Try to get a ride in a forum members car with those dampers.

And no, not necessary to get the mounts. But yes prebuilt front struts is imo a good choice but it also assumes camber plates.

Thanks for the answer. I won't have an opportunity to ride in a Mustang that has the Pro Action shocks/struts. I know that they are not monotube like Ford Performance or Bilstein B6 dampers, but I have heard good things about them. I also thought that they would pair well with the Steeda Min drop springs. I really don't want to lower my car more than 1/2" and they are a decent price.

i drilled out mine for the adjustable rears so no, not necessary, and i wouldn't do it if you aren't going full track just based on a couple things. 1. that body mount location on the car isn't very structurally rigid so the gains are negligible and might over time be a bad idea. 2. the stock unit its basically a cast aluminum thing with some urethane housing a big fat washer.

i'm going for a very GT setup so i'm trying to avoid as much full race stuff as i can.

In my humble opinion, Vorshlag makes the best rear shock mounts. The design give you rear shock travel back and doesn’t require another brace to work like the BMR units.
I was fortunate to get them at intro pricing back in 2019. After several track miles and patchy DC and Baltimore roads, everything has held up great.

It's my understanding that rear shock mounts usually only break on these cars if you lower it in such a way (or install a coilover in place of the shock) that the shock cannot compress fully before the rest of the suspension bottoms out. This is very hard on the mount.

That is the set up in my 22 GT Premium, rides great now, soaks up bumps, stays flat in corners and no more nose dive and squat. I chose not to do the rear shock mounts because I would rather have the mount break than unibody mounting area, but I do have camber plates. If you order the shock/strut spring package they require you to buy rear shock mounts I believe, I did my springs first but the non pp shocks/struts don’t handle stiffer springs very well, so the pro-actions went on last month, very happy with the set up 👍

This is the route I'd go too. I wish I could have got in on that pricing though!

Yea. It was while they were still in the production phase. I think I waited like 3 months or so after ordering. It was $200, but looking at the prices of other options, that $330 doesn’t seem too bad. Really only see them on coilover applications so I like they made a stock set up option

I was not going to use the camber plates, because I was going with the Steeda minimum drop springs. it lowers the car about 1/2" on all four corners. I was hoping just to get by with their camber bolts. I have installed a Steeda tower brace already, and I was told that the camber plates won't fit with the tower brace being installed. Also, what springs did you use, and how much did they lower your car? I am still conflicted between twin tube and mono tube shocks/struts. I want a nice ride not a harsh ride. All my driving will be on the street.

I used the minimum drop springs and it was every bit of a 1/2”, but still have a small fender gap with 275/35r20’s squared. I have a strut tower brace and have 0 fitment issues, just wanted as much camber adjustment as possible. I will say this combo is not a harsh ride and performs very well ( my GT is a daily with a couple track events per year).

The Steeda Rear Shock Mounts are a good upgrade over stock - they provide better damper control by eliminating the rubber deflection of the stock mount, therefore providing better ride quality and handling!

They reduce bind on damper pistons & are used by track enthusiasts - including our Steeda Drag Program.

Not mandatory but a great upgrade with a lot of benefits.

You can order consumer directly at www.steeda.com

Thanks for your feed back.

I installed a Steeda tower brace on my car after I bought it. My shop that does my work, told me they could not install camber plates because the tower brace would be in the way. Do you have a tower brace on your car? Any issues installing your camber plates? Because of this I was going to go with the Steeda camber bolts. These made more sense to me because I was just going to have my wheels aligned to base factory settings anyway, after the shocks/struts and springs are installed.

Also, did you have any concerns with the Pro Action non adjustable shocks/struts being twin tube shock/struts vs what most on this from use being mono tube shocks/struts. From what I have learned is that the twin tubes have issues with the gas and oil mixing, causing shock fade. Again, I will not be racing my car at the track. It is a daily driver in the Summer.

Thanks
