Hey Guys, could use some assistance with my car.

I had another Steeda upper shock mount go bad, attached to a Steeda nonadj. Steeda (very quickly) sent a replacement. My original mount had the old style of screw in collar which Steeda has since replaced with a bushing and lock nut. I can’t get the thing off for anything. Using my shock nut socket I’ve destroyed 2 5mm Allen keys (one standard, one socket) plus wd40 and heat. No go. Any ideas?

Did you use an impact wrench?

If it were me, at this point, I'd cut the nut.

That’s the problem, the original hardware is like a threaded shoulder nut for centering. If I cut it, there’s still 1/2” of threaded stuff inside the bearing.

Try Holding the shaft stationary just below the mount with leather wrapped around the shaft to protect it when you apply vise grips to hold it from turning. Then use the impact gun.

Just tried this. Scrap of leather with so much pressure on the vice grips I had to jump on it to lock it. Impact eventually just spun the whole thing. :frown:

Get some real penetrating oil (PB blaster, Liquid Wrench) in there, and give it a few taps with a hammer to get it in the threads. Let it sit for 20-30 mins, reapply the same way, wait another half hour, and try to impact it off.

Got it! Combination of liquid wrench and TWO vice grips on leather so tight I had to stand on them to close them. Took a good solid 20 second with the impact to work it off. Going to run a tap over the threads before I put the new one on. So glad Steeda changed the bushing design. Thanks guys!

Anti-seize or a corrosion preventative is your friend. You will have to reduce the torque, but it should help with this.
