I'm not worried about IATs on my Steeda CAI. What I am worried about is whether it's actually done anything or if my car is slower now. But as usual, experience is when you expected something else.

How much have you paid for these mats if you don't mind me asking. I've been looking for that kind of insulating material

I used the Heatshield 770003, 48" X 36" around $130., .You can also go to the Heatshield page, and get info about the products. there are different mat sizes. Wrapped inside and out and has some left. Clean everything with brake cleaner before applying.

I have been concerned about high IATs, so I changed my Steeda for the Injen, to lower them, since our ambient temps are above 85 in the morning to mid 90's practically year around. The injen really drop the temps in traffic,
but I want to lower them more.

I'm posting this pics of what I did today, because I consider it can improve Steedas as well as other intakes.

First I notice that the housing part of any box close to the header really soaks a lot of heat in traffic. ( just touch the inside part after driving in traffic), which is transfered to the air going in.

With this in mind, I bought "Heatshield Lava shield mats 770003" from Summit Racing.

Then started wrapping the outside.....

And make some testing with the heat blower......

The inside temp lowered about 20F during my heat blower testing, Since I wanted more, I decided to wrap the inside too.....

This time I lowered, about 42 degrees. (After keeping the heat about one minute steady, (175 vs 133F...)

After installed, hardly notice the wrapping......

Another interesing finding is that before starting the car, I compare outside temp vs IAT, (just switch on), and there is a 6F higher IAT! ( 89F vs 83F outside)

Again, this can be done to your Steeda, or any intake, which was the topic of the thread.
The stock iat readings on the 2015-2016 are incorrect they read 6* higher than actual on all of them. Mine and my wife's included.

So if the stock reading is 6* higher then most of us are running at ambient while moving.

Yes if you are within 6* you are right at ambient. Seeing 170-180 iats is worrying though They don't instantly drop either.

I see 170 while idling with my Roush. The consensus on here is that it's not a big deal.

I need to get the 170 stat in..I saw 170 degree IAT's at Bristol in June while testing and tuning. Ambients were in the low to mid 90's that day. And I wondered why the car ran to half it's potential. I did not realize the timing pull issue. Perhaps if I looked at everything on my ngauge and not just the usual BS. I know nature is hard to defeat, but I also thank the people here that do the hours of research to help the rest of us.

To some these numbers don't mean much, but when I pay $38k for a "PERFORMANCE CAR" and have added several proven mods at whatever additional cost. and the car runs like Fidos ass, I am willing to do whatever little things I can to rectify this issue. Granted when I ran in June, the weather was terrible, there is still no swallowing 106 mph traps. I am estimating that the car was losing near 100hp at the track that evening due to the temps and extremes. 13.3@106 with 2.2 60's was the slip. Correction factor was 12.3@114 with a DA in the 5700's. How close the car will get to that, who knows.

I guess like some have said, running in the summer is pointless if you are looking for low ET's.

The highest I've seen is 150* a few days ago when it was 108 outside plus 95% humidity. That was after my car sat on black top for 20min not moving or running. A few seconds after running it was 140* then rolling 25ish it dropped to 130* Once I was averaging 40mph I was within 12* of ambient.

Still have to heat the lexan and mold it. That's the difficult part.
If you are using lexan you will have trouble with the heating and molding part. Acrylic ie;plexiglass works much better for heating and molding than lexan.
