There have been mentions that the MY17 cars feel different to the previous builds, as if Ford has changed something, making the clutch spring less necessary. Can anyone comment of whether that's true or not?

i still don't understand what you lot complain about the clutch and gears for I think its perfect and loads better than pretty much anything i've owned before.
+1 not had any problems at all with the stock set up, really easy to drive, even in slop/start traffic

How hard is it to change? I do find the change from 1st to 2nd can be jerky especially if on a bumpy road!! Its not terrible, but compared to other manuals I find less feel in the clutch, as some have said a bit digital, on or off.

Vary easy to change only takes about 10 seconds

@steeda_UK How is there no additional force? My understanding is that the this completely replaces the factory clutch assist spring and is significantly weaker. My understanding of that central transition "bump" is that it is where the geometry starts to align allowing the spring to provide the "assist". So any point before that central "bump" you are working against the clutch and spring (how ever mildly).

Are you just saying there would be no additional force since the force currently felt before the assist spring geometry is aligned would just be carried all the way through the pedal travel for the most part?
yomamma219 yes the spring just helps push the clutch pedal back up, so the force required to depress the clutch stays the same (or in fact is a teeny bit less as there is a softer spring now opposing this)

ÂŁ16 for the spring yes, ÂŁ9 for delivery no, could be worse :D

Could be worse, yes, but ÂŁ9 is still nuts in today's world. IF it were ordered alongside other stuff, sure, but on its own? No.

I find the stock clutch feel quite nice. I've no desire, or need, to change it. Why is this such a big deal? The early car I drove was worse, but mine is smooth and light. Are people expecting a Mustang to have a KA clutch feel?

Try driving a classic car, or a Monaro/V8 Vantage. THOSE have heavy clutches!

I have an MY17 and the clutch was still bad, fitted one of these puppies and boom - a massive improvement! No more fluffed changes and much more feel now. This is absolutely a must have, probably the best mod bang for buck:thumbsup: Makes NO difference to weight/effort of clutch:frusty:

For me its not about how heavy it is, it just does not have the feel of other cars, my MGB had more feel at the bite point, as did nearly all the other manual cars I have driven,911, BMW, Golf.... For me, the stock set up makes the lower gear changes less smooth, it requires a bit more finesse and concentration, I could easily live with it, but if the spring helps I will be changing it, anything for an easier life :).

Ok I am not sure if this is a miscommunication issue due to the English vs American language barrier ;) but I am pretty sure what you are saying is only true at the beginning of the clutch travel when the spring is trying to keep the clutch pedal up. After this initial point it is assisting you in depressing the pedal. That is the basis for why it is it is called the clutch assist spring....or so I thought.

Not trying to fight over semantics just checking my understanding.

Hmmm well now I'm confused and my mind is blown as to why ford puts such a strong spring in there in the first place. Maybe the linkage is backwards for you guys just like the steering position :p now I'm just being a troll haha

In any case I already ordered one earlier today after all this discussion about it :)
