I bought the spring 3 months ago - it is still not fitted

So I already have the spring - but I am unsure of the benefit ...

does it make the clutch action lighter?

or does it just give more "feel"?

In other words - should I bother with fitting it or not?

cheers

Bob
It'll only take a few minutes to fit, if you don't like it, just swap it back.

but for a few quid-worth a try!

BTW- the "guide" is supplied in the bag with the spring

I fitted this to mine and didn't notice any difference. I seem to remember Mike at Modurstang saying that it only benefited early cars..or not all cars or something...

I just installed mine that I've had on a shelf for a few months. It took me less than a minute and I didn't use any tools. There's a quick learning curve to get a feel for the new pedal. It's tougher (obviously) to press in but there is more clutch feedback for when it engages and disengages.

With the lighter spring, You'll stop pressing the clutch to the floor because you'll feel when the clutch disengages. Thereby helping you shift more efficiently. I haven't stalled it at all but I have felt the jerky takeoffs. That stopped after 20 minutes of light to light driving. Easy peasy.

I have to say I don't think the spring is needed if you're used to your car and you have a stock clutch but it does help if you're searching for a specific clutch feel.

I'll be keeping it in but will keep the stock spring on hand for when I upgrade the clutch. Once I start making real Hp with an aftermarket clutch, it could help tune in the car for whatever I like most. Since I'm stock, I can't comment on what the spring feels like with an aftermarket clutch but I would at least try it if you're already modded. I think it's worth the cost and time to at least try.

To confirm, this makes the pedal harder to push down?

The spring rate is lower on the Steeda spring which makes the pedal feel harder/stiffer. How difficult is that to understand? lol

Stock 185lb/in = Light vague feel

Steeda 35lb/in = Heavier dynamic feel

Do you actually have a steeda spring? Have you actually driven using it? It's designed to give more feel... which it does.. btw spring tension works both ways...pull and push..... it's softer.. the end!

You have even put in the numbers, yet still conclude incorrectly.

35lb is lighter (read, softer) than 185lb.

You need less weight (150lb less) to move the spring an inch, I.E. it is a softer spring.

How is that difficult to understand. ???

What you are getting confused about is this;

Now that the clutch spring is softer, making the pedal easier to push down, you now feel the pressure plate springs on the clutch itself within the bell housing.

So now you can feel when the pressure plate engages and disengages, more than you could feel it with the heavier original clutch pedal spring, therefore you get better clutch feel for starts and changes.
