After Gibbos great review of our shock mounts yesterday (thanks!), I just got this great review of our Clutch Spring from a customer via email today.

Allan said after fitting his:

"By the way, The clutch spring I also ordered has transformed my Mustang! Changing gear at speed between first and second used to be a nightmare and I often caused an embarrassing jerk due to missing the ā€œbiteā€

Now, due to the better feedback from the pedal, all gear changes feel amazing.

Every manual shift Mustang owner should know about this and have one!"

We certainly agree. And at only £15.98 inc vat, can you afford NOT to fit one???

This part is another absolute must for the manual Mustang's, I completely forgot about this part being in my car.

I remember taking about 5-10 of these when they first came out to help other members out as it was before Steeda had a UK operation. :)

So I know this is a generic question but how much additional force is required to depress the clutch pedal after this install. I really hate that feeling of hard then suddenly easy that the pedal/spring geometry causes with the factory spring but I don't want to affect the daily drivability of my car.

I have had this car for almost 4 months and still am not that smooth and am really inconsistent with my low gear shifting. I have even come close to stalling from time to time! I feel like the spring would really help me but don't want to end up trading one problem for another.

yomamma219 Zero additional force. It makes the central part of the pedal transition more predictable.

I got one of Gibbos springs when he brought a few in, and i can only agree, its an absolute must for anyone with a manual.

I honestly would have either sold my car or gotten a replacement clutch hoping to solve the god awful clutch pedal feel stock if it wasn't for this bugger. Never felt comfortable just removing the spring. Still the clutch grabs differently than any stick car I've liked but at least with this I was able to get used to it and not buck about everywhere. Stock clutch is holding find but I kind of look forward to getting a different one in the future just to see if it makes engagement a little more aligned with what I'd prefer. That plus this spring... gotta be butter cream!

@steeda_UK How is there no additional force? My understanding is that the this completely replaces the factory clutch assist spring and is significantly weaker. My understanding of that central transition "bump" is that it is where the geometry starts to align allowing the spring to provide the "assist". So any point before that central "bump" you are working against the clutch and spring (how ever mildly).

Are you just saying there would be no additional force since the force currently felt before the assist spring geometry is aligned would just be carried all the way through the pedal travel for the most part?

The stock spring almost makes the clutch pedal ratchet back up uncontrollably. I didn't notice any more force necessary to push it down at all after installing the Steeda spring. I did notice my left leg didn't ache anymore after huffing it through traffic.

It's a must have as you will not believe how much better it makes things, the difference is like night and day and once you see the light you never go back :D

i still don't understand what you lot complain about the clutch and gears for I think its perfect and loads better than pretty much anything i've owned before.

I will say my only comparisons are to a 1995 Honda Civic manual and newer Renault Clio Diesel Manual. Both were much easier to drive but I would say they were less fun to shift and all as there was no real feedback whatsoever.

I think people complain because the clutch pedal has such a non-linear feel and the gear box gives all sorts of weird feedback. The distasteful thing I experience the most in shifting is how it feels almost like I'm grinding gears when shifting from 1-2 or 2-3. This doesn't happen every time but its frequent enough I am almost used to it.

My first manual car was a Subaru Legacy GT Spec B. A week later I got it pretty darn well. It took me 30 seconds to gather together how to drive a VW Golf and BMW 120d I had in Germany when I lived there. Took me three months to get use to the Mustang and I still don't like the pedal box spacing/design. Only the Mustang made clunks. Such is life.
