Hello everyone. I have a 2016 Mustang GT (w/Perf Pack) and I was curious if anyone know specifically what Sport Mode and Track Mode do differently than normal mode? Thanks in advance.

No exhaust or suspension changes with mode changes. No HP increase, either. About the only thing that changes is the rate that the throttle opens at. In sport or track it opens somewhat faster.

Sport makes the throttle more sensitive. 20% pedal-30% throttle essentially. I know that's not the exact change but making an example. Sport also makes the TC less active, but still on. Stiffens up suspension with mag ride. Tightens up steering also. Sport mode tends to feel touchy on and off the throttle. Opens exhaust valves on AE sooner.

Track makes throttle linear. Track is meant for high rpm driving 4k and up really. Makes it so when you're back on throttle it is consistent and not touchy. 20% pedal is 20% throttle. Turns off TC and really lightens up on stability control. Tightens up steering. Sport steering is what you get on both. Mag ride stiffens more than sport. AE valves stay completely open.

It may change some of the shift logic on the A10 in the modes. But I have a manual so cannot say for sure.

Sport+ holds in each gear a bit longer than track does. If I'm cruising in Sport+ and the tranny is in 7th gear and switch to track it will upshift to 8th gear. Then if I go back to Sport+ it will downshift back to 7th gear.

I have heard that Ford fiddled with the modes from year to year so it may not be the same for all model years.

Best,
You know I've wondered about this too. To be honest I've never actually changed the drive modes. I have a manual 2016 GT/CS and since you have a 2016 PP you must have a manual too. If I had to guess I would probably say it changes the throttle sensitivity. Other than that I don't know what else would change. Will be watching this thread for more answers.
The newer 18+ cars had different things that would change as far as suspension and the automatics would do crazy things, so I am interested as well learning about what changes occur for our manual 15-17 gen.

With an A10 it obvisouly changes the shifting laws (higher RPMs while up shifting, will downshift sooner on breaking, etc...) but it also shifts faster in Sport Mode and even faster in Track Mode (using auto or steering wheel pads).

I've seen through several sources that Sport and Track mode map the Throttle exactly the same, at least for the 3rd gen. When I asked my tuner to give me Track mode when shifter is in S, he told me that's fine, but as an FYI he can't distinguish between Sport and Track because they are bound together in the tuning.

I know that with my 2020 10R80, the car shifts much harder in dragstrip mode than even sport mode. The first time I drove it in drag strip mode I felt like it was going to break the transmission. :cwl:

Obviously not, but I was amazed at how much harder it shifted.

For his specific vehicle, your first sentence is correct. But 18+ does have exhaust and suspension changes (if so equipped).

I use sport mode when top is down under 50, to keep RPM up so drone is eliminated. Also cut and thrust city driving and when want to hold a paddle gear selection.
