I guess you could call them modes but they really aren't. They are just traction based settings. The premium is the only way to gain modes. Us base guys don't get the ability to have throttle response changes and things that are more track oriented. With that said traction control was unheard of for many years so you can still have fun and compete on a track without them.
Hey bigb996, IMHO I think you have it backwards. The base is missing "drive modes" that include altered throttle response when you can already do the same thing with your right foot (and many people prefer to). Both base and premium are otherwise the same for track use, with the disadvantage for some that the Premium has leather seats.

I'm not clear on what is more track oriented about a premium? It seems to me that the base is the track oriented car (which is why I ordered the base) and the premium is more of a classic GT.

Not looking to start an argument, and we can agree to disagree, but I'm just asking in the event I'm missing something here. Personally, I think it's all just marketing.

That's why I bought the base also, less bells and whistles and opted to spend the difference on the PP instead of the premium, however I must admit I'm a little jealous of the premium radio vs the base radio.

Don't be jealous of the premium radio, you still need to spend money to make it sound good.

Track mode on the premium is NOT the same as turning advance track off. We have a traction control button that will do all the functions you listed but we have additional modes on top of that that change not only traction control settings but throttle settings as well. In track mode Advance track is still on though it is reduced. You still have to hold the traction control button down to turn it off all the way.

I just took fuse #62 out today and testing that out. Anyone want to chime in on pros/cons of doing that?

Default at every start-up:
- Traction Control On
- Stability Control On

Single tap: "Traction Control Off"
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control On

Double Tap: "AdvancTrac Sport Mode"
- Traction Control Reduced
- Stability Control Reduced

Press & Hold: "AdvancTrac Off" (e.g. Track Mode)
- Traction Control Off
- Stability Control Off

AdvancTrac helps to maintain control of your vehicle on slippery surfaces using Traction Control and Stability Control by applying brakes to individual wheels and reducing engine power.

Traction control helps to avoid drive wheel spin and loss of traction.

Stability control helps avoid skids and lateral slides.

On a Base Mustang, this is all completely independent of the steering setting.
Does this also work on the base ecoboost? I'll have to try it. Glad for for nannies, though. They saved my ass in my Mercedes one time and getting on the interstate tonight in the rain I felt them kick in as the rear was starting to slide around a little under very light throttle. Concrete interstate is like ice skating when it is wet...

base can get full throttle on startup without using toggle switches. just add a jms device. as I understand it.

Nothing wrong with a little friendly debate man. I don't disagree with you. I'm not saying the premium model is a track oriented car vs the base but the selectable drive modes on them are more of a drive mode than just turning off tcs and other traction features. The toggle switches actually change more than just interference. I would rather have a base for tracking but I think to get a True track mode you need a tuner and a base does not come with a true track tune.

Sport + on my auto is amazing. It rev matches when the transmission downshifts, if I'm describing that correctly. Similar to what you would do in a 6 speed car. It also holds the transmission in gear longer if you aren't all the way in it.

Hey mate

. . . My suggestion would be get into an HPDE class if there is anything in your area. I've been driving for many decades, but have a lot of respect for 435HP on public roads. Just make sure that you turn off the nannies in any HPDE school or on the track...! . . .
I would like to respectfully disagree. When you are participating in your first (few) HPDE, Nanny ON is your best friend. You can safely explore the limits of your car and have the computer save you. Over time and a few more HPDE and driving schools, you can gradually reduce the nanny intervention going to Sport mode and Sport+ and eventually Track mode. I have had about 20 track days and still leave "track Mode" on. My #1 priority at a track day is to drive my vehicle home!! "Master Trackers" track naked, increasing the thrill and fractions of a second lap times. Definitely NOT worth the risk for me. Everyone makes there own decision!
