So do you know why it ate the plug?

High cylinder temperatures, high EGT's, lean conditions. That is usually destroys a plug like that. However it is possible the plug was damaged during installation.

This is one of the MANY reasons I made this thread, and recommend to change out the plugs immediately.

I gapped mine to 0.028, but I couldn't get the electrode flat across the tip. It is more curved so that the gap is 0.028 on the end and tapers to about .030 as you go inwards. Is this going to be an issue?
Also, using the pliers to help set the gap left some marks on the electrode. I am worried this will weaken it in the heat and break off?

I just put my NGKs in yesterday, gapped to .027. There's a noticeable difference in smoothness of idle and power delivery.

I was pleasantly surprised to find my factory plugs gapped at .030 on each one.

Looked pretty dirty for so few miles.

NGK's in now.

Neither should be a problem.

The small difference in gap between front and back just means sparks will jump where the gap is 0.028 for now. As wear occurs and the 0.028 gap gets larger, the spark will start to jump from different locations across the electrodes.

As long as the marks left by the teeth on the pliers are small, I don't see how they could weaken the strap electrode; it's a pretty hefty piece of metal, relatively speaking.

I would ask them to give you some support on which sparkplugs to use for your vehicle. This is a vendor's post that put in the time to do some research (well I did) and give information to the community. The least you could do is give them support or not post a link to a competitors site in the thread. If lethal is your go to, ask them for some support.

Interesting thread - the same was true about stock plug gaps for the 2.0T Genesis Coupes!!!

We had a huge thread over on gencoupe.com about the very same thing... The 2010-2013 2.0T stock plug gaps were not consistent at all, with huge gap variances between the (4) plugs. We all did the same, pulled plugs, re-gapped and in MANY instances folks were even reporting greater increases in fuel economy.

I bought a 98 civic for 500 bucks because the previous owner thought the trans was going out. After about 20 miles of driving the car would start driving like complete shit. I was like eff it im only going to use it for work so ill chance it since i knew it wasnt the trans going out. Ended up being bad plugs, they were gapped at 60 0_0

bought it with 170k now at 198k and drives like a champ and A/C blows better than my GF's 2013 civic lol.

Upgrading the spark plugs is not a bad idea, I have recommended this to all my customers that have more than just an intake. NGK 6510 will serve you well, I'm also a huge fan of Denso ITV22 .
This thread has been extremely helpful. I don't know squat about tuning, other than my service manager has me concerned enough not to get into the ECU since Ford will know immediately via SYNC.

I have the R/Y - JMS Boostmax and Pedalmax. GREAT products. Noticeable difference in torque and high rpm HP. It does tend to "fall off" around 5k sometimes. I'm assuming this is the blowout people are speaking of?

Also have installed a Airaid CAI and Roush axle back exhaust. I love this car. It's a daily/work car. My company freaked when I bought it (get car allowance), but chilled when they learned I was averaging 25 mpg's. Thanks!
