Ford will know via sync immediately? You mean when it's in the shop? Sync wouldn't have anything to do with the ECU

Yes, ALL 2015 Ford products with Sync will notify Ford through the Satellite that the ECU has had a program change. I thought this was pretty well known. So even if you return your program back to stock with whatever you've used, Cobb, SCT, etc., Ford will have a record of all the changes made to the ECU the instant it leaves the shop. I believe they even state this on the MyFord website. They claim it's for diagnostic purposes, etc.

On mine, sync has to use my phone through Bluetooth and make a call to upload a vehicle health report though

Yea I really can't tell if you're serious but you are literally probably the first person to ever say that on this forum and it's completely unrealistic

Have an OTS Cobb tune and Cobb intake, otherwise stock and today on the highway I did a full throttle 6th gear pull, heard some knock and some black smoke (from running rich I'm guessing) immediately backed off and the car still runs fine otherwise. Worried about going full throttle in a high gear again though. I think I've had slight knock before under similar conditions but never any really visible black smoke like today. Finally read through this thread and I'm thinking it may be a spark plug gap issue as I have never checked or replaced mine, car has almost 24k miles now.

Could my issue today be due to the plugs? Kinda makes sense to me but I'd love to get some other opinions. Since Adam is suggesting plugs I'm gonna go ahead and order some NGKs anyway I think.

You pulled from 6th gear at highway speed? Good way to blow up your motor. Supposed to start your pulls in the higher RPM range (IE low gear)

Regardless, with a tune it's recommended to drop heat ranges. Put the NGK's in.

Wait what? Since when was full throttle in 6th at highway speeds dangerous? I've done this in every car I've owned and never had any problems or heard of this being bad. It's obviously not the fastest way to get up to speed but I just do it to pass people in traffic, etc. Have there been people on here that have reported blown motors from flooring it in 6th gear? I appreciate you chiming in but that just sounds crazy to me.

Low rpm + full boost = bent rods. On an NA car it's not a problem. I'm betting the car was going rich (black smoke) to save the engine from catastrophe.

It's mostly (entirely?) relevant to turbo engines.

I don't know if it's happened to anyone here. Look at the ST forums, majority of the blown motors seem related to that. Also talked about in link below. Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to help out.

I'd recommend downshifting when passing.

Wow I owned a turbo Subaru for 5 years and never heard of this. Thanks for enlightening me guys. I'll just drop it in 5th anytime I wanna quickly pass on the highway from now on.
