You would think if it were much of a restriction the guys adding catback systems would be seeing bigger gains though.
I always thought the resonator just changed the frequency of the pulse with a minimum effect on flow.

That is normally the case, and with normal street driving, I doubt it would have such heat signature. The picture shows that in a road course setting, where you are doing 20-30 minute sessions with the car working between 3500-7000 rpm, it is enough of a restriction to build serious heat, and therefore had to go.

Our car is back over at our friends at Vorshlag's shop today for 3d mapping for the Camber plates and MCS coil overs! We have a SCCA time trial event on Jan. 17th so we better hurry!

Really enjoying your build thread and looking forward to seeing the results of the SCCA time trial.

We got some more data today. Looks like we will save 12.6 lbs on each rear wheel and 7.8 lbs on each front wheel. We gain 2.36 inches of contact patch in at each corner in front and 1.57 inches in rear! The last pic shows the overall width of a front and rear PP wheel and the pair of 315 Falkens!

Sock, are you going to be changing the gear ratio? If so, what to?

I will consider it after some track testing. Might need to go down to a 3.55 or 3.31 with the smaller diameter rear tire.

Sock, do you think having the Premium model driver mode switches to use would make a difference on track? Does the extra weigh of the premium cancel out any advantage of these modes? Thanks

If you want a car that is more track oriented, weight it king. The driver modes just change some of the driving dynamics and do not apply for road course and autoX. I run with the traction control and stability control completely off. And a good tune will optimize the power and driving dynamics. So, IMO, the mode switches are just jewelry for a street car. With that said, if I was using my car as primarily a street car, I would get a premium!

I don't plan on any engine tuning changes on mine. I agree a 3.55 would make the car better overall. 3.73's even with an almost 28" tire is too much on the street, fun but too much. I'll find out this spring for sure put I think a 3.55 will utilize the factory power much better on a road course and with a shorter tire on 18's you may be right on that 3.31's may be the winner. I find the stock limiter all the time on the street, if it was designed to go to 7500 from the factory it wouldn't matter but I wish the first gear wasn't so low and they were much closer. Great for drag racing launches.

My tracks have some slow speed turns that in the MX-5's you are bouncing off the rev limiter in second for a few seconds with a 7200 limiter. I'm chomping at the bit to see how much speed I will carry through the same turns and if it will be a third gear corner. A ton more torque that might pull through.

It's going to be a long winter.

On the subject of driver modes, if you never plan on any track time (or one or two events a year) and this is going to be your commuter car the weight of the Premium shouldn't matter. That said my Base has more features than I need in a performance car. I still have TC On/Off, Sport Mode (TC OFF) and everything OFF. The modes in the premium are gimmicks IMO. If you can't control your right foot in the rain or snow and need to rely on electronics to do it for you, a car control school should be in order for the driver. Just my opinion. Not that I'm good at it but ABS can make for some very long stops compared to brake modulation at maximum braking. If I get abs to kick in it still makes me nervous (and I've had it in cars for several years) because it completely takes my input out of the equation. The PP seems to have more aggressive ABS limits so I have only had it come in once when I tested it on a cold wet road on purpose. I do not like the feeling, it tends to unload the chassis too much making the stop longer. I'd rather keep those tires with the 15" Brembos loaded as much as possible. ABS makes the weight transfer back to the rear and unload the front taking away the grip to turn and avoid the object.

We called up our friends a BigWorm Graphics to get one of their Vinyl light tint kits. They fit great and are easy to apply. My main reasons for getting the kit are not for aesthetic reasons, but more for the added benefit of headlight and fog light protection at out upcoming track event. The quality and thickness of the material is perfect for protecting those expensive units! They will get a good test this weekend!

I'm not a huge fan of colored wheels, however it makes total sense for a business to make a splash with their build. I would have gone with a DIB-like blue for a wheel design like that with maybe a matching painted brake caliper or perhaps a yellow caliper.

Definitely want to see them mounted!
